Prado Rocker Panels on GX... (6 Viewers)

Here is a little more detail for those that care.

I could have gotten away with out buying the side moulding clips because after removing the stock side steps there are rubber grommet plugs that fill the holes. In some holes I was able to use the old rubber grommet plugs by pushing them in to fasten the plastic side molding to the body. The issue was they easily popped out. In some holes I used the new rocker moulding retainer (PN: 76924-13020). Those fastened the side moulding really tight to the body. You can see why, in the pic below. The old rubber grommet can stretch a bit to fit beyond just the body and hold the plastic and the metal body together. The plastic retainer has a wide enough gap to hold both. If someone asked me if the plastic retainer were necessary, I would say YES. The new side moulding felt securely fastened where those were used. And they were pretty inexpensive.

The

There will be six of these on each side. It fastens the plastic side molding to the body (not frame).

Finally got my sideskirts painted and will attempt the install this week. Am I understanding the following correctly?:

This should bolt up using the factory mounting holes/brackets/etc and the only "extra" i really should order as a nice to have for mounting purposes is 76924-13020. Is that correct?

little thrown on this post very early on calling out a bunch of other hardware:

"Screws for Brackets:
91631-J0612 (4 per side, total of 8)

Screws/ Clips inside of rear wheel well
90189-06065 (1 per side, total of 2)
90159-60603 (1 per side, total of 2)

Different Screw/ Clip (not sure)
75867A (1 per side, total of 2)
76924G (1 per side, total of 2)

Trim Clips for underside of rocker panel
90189-04059 (4 per side, total of 8)
90162-40035 (4 per side, total of 8)"

I don't think they are entirely necessary. I reused the rubber clips they worked fine. But I have to admit the plastic clips did have a very positive click close attachment to the panels.

I've had the panels for a few months now and there have been zero issues with the panels coming loose. They are pretty light.

Which sliders did you go with? I am doing a similar project. I saw a youtube video of Main Line Overland use the Prado panel with the sliders. I couldn't make out what they did with KDSS cover.
Sorry for the lack of response. I didn't see your update. I never put on sliders. I really want to get some protection but it just looks so cool seeing my chassis. Just kidding, I haven't found a good source that will bolt on. But I haven't really tried. I've been playing around with my motorcycles more than the GX.

An alternative currently for 4R... but vendor states may make for 460 if enough interest

I like this option! Anybody communicate with them lately to see if they’ll do some for 460 owners?

Thanks! Honestly the cut stock steps aren’t too bad. I don’t know if it’s worth $500 before shipping to get some that are a little cleaner.
The other thing to keep in mind is that you’d still have to cut them if you wanted to put sliders on.

It's the old story of time vs money. If one has the money, buy what you need and pay someone to bolt it all together.
My first couple of overland vehicles, I did a lot of the work myself because I had the time and not a lot of money for shops to do it for me.
On this GX, it was the opposite, I had the money and not the time, so much of the basic hard heavy stuff stuff, e.g. suspension, armor, etc. Albeit I do love tinkering on my rig as many of you have seen on my build thread.
But as I'm saying, sometime one's time is worth more than paying for something or someone to do it for me.
Another quick example, I hardly ever wash my own car. I'll spend ALL day detailing it out when all I wanted in the beginning was just a wash and interior cleaning.
My personal time is worth more than the money I spend at the car wash where I could be doing other more enjoyable things while someone else scrubs my car.
But as I've said before, opinions are like belly buttons, everyone has one, I just expressed mine...

Cheers!

What's the consensus on the best way of acquiring these at this time? UpGarage or other Japanese auction sites?

You can get the skirts themselves for VERY cheap on Upgarage ($20-$50 max). Then you're just left with the shipping which could run anywhere from $300-$400.

I think if you go with a Japanese auction site you might even be able to get the shipping down a little lower. I feel like carmaka is the most expensive option of the three by a large margin.

Would you though? I know some sliders like CBI's version you would have to trim. Others like Main Line and RSGs do not go the entire length of the rocker. I've been leaning towards RSG's sliders and from the few pics I can find (2010+ Lexus GX460 Flat Sliders - https://rsgmetalworks.com/collections/2010-lexus-gx460/products/2010-lexus-gx460-flat-sliders) it looks like not much trimming if any would be needed.

I found this thread via CL and this is something on my spring to do list. Thank you @arod2051 and @Jo2 for the pics and details. I did this mod to my limited 4R and used the trail edition rocker moldings. Turned out great and want to do the same to my GX.

Might work… looks damn close though so I’d get some exact measurements

The right side arrived today, left is still in customs. Will be installing them after they are painted later this month. I have to get some other bodywork done so I figured this was a good time to ditch the soccer mom running boards. Then I’m going to pay a visit to RSG up the road in Golden, CO to see which of their sliders fit without cutting the new Prado 150 rocker panels. Will report back.

You ever get your panels on? Found a pair on Facebook market and got them on.

Curious to know if you ever found sliders that fit without cutting the new Prado panels.
