Has anyone ever had a leak from the power steering reservoir? Mine appears to be leaking around the lip at the top? I searched the forum before posting and did not find anything.
PS.webp

I looked on the underside and it looks like it's leaking where the top crimps on. Not ready to take it apart yet but would like to hear if other people had found this and what they did.
I did find this on youtube but it’s not a land cruiser.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I wonder how it would rust out if it's full of oil?
I bet you could remove it and use some POR15 fuel tank sealer (
New POR-15 Fuel Tank Sealer - 8 oz.) to seal it back up. Leak does not look to be that major.
Chk it by spraying it with Brake Cleaner and when it evaporates see if any oil stain remains.

Forgot to mention to put a new piece of hose on it if it is the ~18 yr old original, I think 5/8 Gates fits

The factory fix is to replace the reservoir.

I found a thread on here that said how to uncrimp it, clean it, apply FIPG and reassemble. Been dry for about a year now.

It's good to remove it from the truck.
Make an alignment mark across the two pieces.
Carefully uncrimp all the tabs, just enough so they can slide by. Try all your pliers, channelocks worked for me. You're "unrolling" the tab open.
Lift the cap off.
Pull out any innards you want to clean. There is a screen down there that can be full of crap. Mine wasn't bad.
Clean the old seal ring with gentle solvents or even soap and water. You don't want to harden the rubber any more than it already is.
Clean all the oil from both sealing surfaces so the FIPG can grab.
Apply a bead of FIPG on both sides of the old gasket and put it all back together quickly.
Roll the crimps back home with pliers, hammer, etc, until it looks good. Or good enough at least...
Start putting it all back together on the truck. Hopefully you're slow enough to allow the FIPG to skin over.
Put in a new fill cap (or at least check the rubber seal under it) and drive on.

About 150 bucks for a new one.

This is an expensive hobby.

Yep, done this several times , mainly to clean the screen, Ultra Gray RTV seals them right up.

Man, I hope this is whats wrong with the 94. I swear that trucks PS system is haunted. Everything is completely resealed 3k miles ago. Every once in a while it pukes a bunch of ATF on the driveway then nothing for days and days. The other night I did find some fluid spatter on the intake manifold.

What is the current cost on a reservoir and does it come with a new cap/dipstick assembly?
