I am having zero luck finding door locks with keys, and my cylinders have no codes on them... so I was looking at universal power door lock conversions. It should be much cheaper than making a key ($150-300ish) and the mechanics of it looks simple enough. The door is roomy inside.

Anyone ever tried this on a '55?

Not an answer to that question, but unless you are just in the mood for power door locks...you might take one of your cyliners to a local auto parts place. I had a circa 1990's Buick that an aftermarked lock matched up to a 55 lock...you would just need to change out the paddles.

Mine has them. Check jc whitney or some other flea bay source. Any decent hot rod shop should have kits as well. Pretty easy install.

Negative; in it when i bought it.

I seem recall it's a matter of a small motor, some wires, and sheetmetal screws. I'll snap some pics this weekend and zip em your way.

Cheers- JJ

passenger front door lock cylinder is the only one with the code on it. remove it and the code is lightly stamped in the pot metal casting that is not visible from the outside.

X2

And I had a key made for mine about a year ago. Cost me 90 dollars for the two keys. He came out and made it with a file. DOn't ask me how but they work great now.

I'm having AutoZone order these key locks for me- they look right and are for a '76 Toyota Pickup:

FYI- the key lock I bought from Autozone for a Toyota pickup of the same year (76) work perfectly and look identical on the outside...
