Dan,
Thanks for the info. Do you know what year the FJ40 used these 15" rims?
Bill

76+ IIRC.

Just need the welded wheels instead of the riveted wheels. They are available new from Toyota still. $87 each IIRC from CDan.

....back to the thread....

How far out are you with the hub faces right now? Ive got a set from a mini-truck i need done in red & black. They look great!

I've got a few to spare. I really picked these up because the guy at the junkyard didn't know what to do with them and didn't charge me for them.

So since I'm sure someone would like them, and I'd like to raise some money for the FJ-35LV project ("land cruiser junky" could really use our help!!!!! - https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj45-owners-club/218909-land-cruiser-junky-could-really-use-our-help.html), I'll sell a set of Aisin Hub faces.

These should be interchangeable with any Aisin Hubs you've got (Land Cruiser, mini, etc...). I blasted them to bare metal, and powder coated the outer ring black, and the dial red. I also will have applied white paint to the raised lettering (except the "Aisin" in the center of the dial). I'll ship two complete faces, along with new Marlin (or Toyota--your choice) seals installed, with the assemblies assembled (and greased). All you need to do is take apart your hubs, and transfer the follower pawl and internal guts to these faces (it takes about 5 minutes--very easy to do).

Here is what is included:

But here is what they look like installed on clean hub bodies and with fresh bolts. Note that these pictures are before I have painted the raised lettering on the dial white--the lettering is bare metal in these pics, but will be white by the time I send them out.

<EDIT>Since the FJ-35LV project is done, I'll just do them and charge for them myself. Here's the new prices (yeah, they went up a bit).
$35 for the hub faces You send me your two hub faces, and I'll rebuild them, including new O-rings from Toyota.
$50 for the whole hub You send me a complete set of hubs, and I'll rebuild the faces, plus clean, regrease and reassemble the hub body itself.
--The only things you've got to supply yourself are the felt gaskets, available from either Toyota or Marlin
$10 for freshly plated bolts Yeah, the original hub face bolts (6 per side), but replated and new looking.

I'd rather not do the core exchange thing, because if someone has a set of perfect faces, I don't want to send them back a set with a bit of rock rash on them. But I can probably work with you a bit on that if you need to minimize your downtime if it's one you drive a lot. Once I receive a set, it's about a week to get them back in the mail to you, depending on my work schedule (and how motivated I am to do more bodywork on the 40 ;) )

I'm also open to different colors (I'm sure I could find the gold color for the later models) or solid faces (without the lettering in white). PM me if you're thinking about it. I've had inquiries, but nobody has pulled the trigger yet on okaying the experiment of ordering the gold powdercoat. The blue came out nicely though.

Hi there - I realize this post is from 1,000yrs ago but I'm getting ready to redo my AISIN hubs. Are you still offering this service? How did you do the white raised lettering? These look really good.

I’m not doing it anymore.
The lettering is done by pressing the raised letters against a board with some white paint on it. It’s tricky to get the amount of paint and the consistency just right.

Okay thanks for the tip. If youve got an other suggestions on painting, prepping, etc. Would like to hear. I was planning on blasting mine and then rattle can with vht caliper paint. I don’t have acres to powder coat. Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I didn't read thru the entire thread, but I'll add this, FWIW - I didn't like the powder coat. Looked great, but the tolerances are tight and the thickness of the PC made the dial difficult to turn, particularly when cold. I eventually took the faces off and stripped them and just used a couple coats of Home Depot appliance paint (moisture cured urethane) and has held up great for 8 years. Those paints only come in White, Black and Red. The raised letters I just hand-lettered with a testers model brush and paint.

Did you use a primer? Or straight appliance paint? I’ve heard it can be tricky to get the paint to stick to the aluminum but this can be due to not getting it clean prior to paint. Either way, thanks for the tips

No primer, IIRC, but it was some time ago. I just followed the directions on the can ... I media blasted them, ran them through the dishwasher a few times on heated water setting (with other dishes to piss off my wife ) and that was it. New O-rings from Toyota also.

I don't see the Red paint is available at Home Depot anymore, so ...

Here was my first attempt at restoring an AISIN hub dial. I refinished it in pewter and red just to see what it would look like. I can attest to the fact that the lettering is the hardest part to get right, and this one is far from perfect. I agree with above to stay away from powder coated finishes on this due to build-up issues. This is just automotive paint over rust inhibitor. The key is to lightly coat in four to five passes to avoid paint getting to thick. Thanks to @hyhpe for sending this my way so I could experiment.

came out nice. I like the Red/Pewter combo. Did you paint the white on afterwards? Pretty dramatic before and after
