I am able to have machine work, such as the brass gears I made a year or so, done relatively inexpensively, even for smaller runs.

I have no plans at this time for another gear run (I made probably 50 gears last time), but if it decided we want to do that I can facilitate that.

Eshan in Pakistan or Paul in Panama can produce sheet metal in smaller runs.

I have a local friend in the plastic injection business.
I have been discussing repro parts with him for a year or so, time and money being the holdup....

He can make parts up to about 1 cubic foot, so all the small gaskets, seals, hose types....
mirror gaskets

He has the setup right at his house, along with 3D scanner

I will be meeting with him sometime next week....

i don't make things, but a fellow clubmember works for a company that does plastic molding. he's the one who made the vent grills and my early t/s bases.

would later model turn signal bases be necessary?

It would make FJ40 turn signals usable! Have you ever tried to dismantle old '55 signals to get enough good parts to make the complete light? Pain in the butt especially 'cause it's all old and brittle.

I've got an idea. Why not try to find the original manufacturers of these parts first. There has got to be a way to find out who made them for Toyota. There has got to be a way.

Marshall, I'll start doing research on that, as I was thinking the same thing, maybe Mot or CruiserDan can help. Also I'll speak to Jonathan Ward at TLC, he is very connected at Toyota, and I'm sure could be a great resource. A good friend of mind is helping to market and sell the ICON and one of my clients just ordered one, I'll fire out an email to him today and see if he can help.

I had a long conversation with Jonathan Ward and even with his contacts that go as high as Dr Toyota he has been unable to get parts and weather strips remade. He said his one conversation with one company was he had to have a minimum run of 5000 pieces and they need Toyota's approval.
This morning I contacted Metro Molding about working with us and one thing thats cool is we would have a two year exclusive on the part, we own it.
Whats the word from John at Slo Cruisers about the fix window and would we get a price break for a group buy?
Metro can give us a price if we send them a sample and I think we should at the very least let them price it up. What do you guys think?

Personally, I think it would be in poor form to look for prices on stuff that John at Slocruisers has already begun work on. If he bows out then it's all fair otherwise I think we need to honor his work and buy from him. I'd rather not know what someone would charge us for that part since I think it's fair to patronize folks that are already getting piggy parts happening.

just my $0.02

And I understand that completely but we have been discussing the fixed window weather strip for a while and no one can tell us when it will be available or how much it cost. I'm just trying to rustle the bushes and get this thing nailed down and it will be one less important part we need to produced.

Thanks Marshall, I see that , $449.00 each, $899.99 a set, ouch!!!!:eek:. Can anyone tell me why it's so expensive?? At that price that would be the last thing I would buy.

agree with Charles on not trying to compete with others members that are fabbing and concentrate on items that are not available anywhere.....but we have been batting around the rear door fixed window rubber seals now for over two years and up to now have never seen a set for sale; only a price at 449$:frown: but also the note that they are not available either last time I checked.....! mine are practically rotted away and a source of water leakage in the rear:frown: SOR also lists them but also notes; no longer available....what do we do then:confused: personally don't think it unreasonable to explore other options if what we need is not available; just my 0.02

Lou John has them now.

have access to a shop

.....I have access to a shop with laser, forming, welding, water-jet, capabilities. It is not mine but the owner is a very close friend and he is always open to new projects that he can take on. If we have an idea for something where he could make several pieces, that would be best....let me know what we can get him to do for the PPG!!
