Most of the questions and concerns on here are seat control related, I thought I would address some of these. I have changed my mind on putting the controls on the center console, mostly because its as close to plug and play as it can be. I will write up some TTPs on how/where to cut into the center console, and how to mount the control switch. The switch cover just clips to it from the outside and provides a cleaner look where the hole is cut. As shown in the photo, the harness just runs under the seat and plugs in.

I am not overly stoked on that placement, but I think its better than on the seat side bottom, and it is just not worth the hassle to adapt the harness to put anywhere else.

Now, lets talk seat heaters. Discos 99-04 are ALL prewired for heaters, some just do not have the switches. .

2002 (at minimum) Disco II SD models did not include the thermal pads but wiring harness to pads and console were included. Those thermal pads were the biggest PITA project. I'd do 3 1FZE HG jobs before putting in those pads again. Damn English hog rings ....

Thank you for that. I had read that All disco II were prewired for seat heaters and the pads were aready in the seats. This information came from the kit for the skitch/bezel upgrade. Nice to have first hand knowledge, hopefully I can find a way to tell if the seat a has the pad or not. You are correct, adding after the fact would be a PITA.

I finally had a chance to take a look at the seats. If you look closely in the pictures you can see they are slightly different, I was able to snag some from a Discovery Kalahari Edition which has cloth in the center and leather on the edges. Nice for Utah summers.

One of the things I was worried about, the screw slide achor, is independent of the feet riveted to the slide, this makes a bracket simpler. I plan on doing a complete measurement of how high it sits and leg room. I spent 4 days and 1000 miles in my truck this past weekend staring at the armrests in my rear view mirror. I am beyond excited to get these mocked up.

I pulled my seats out and put in the unaltered seats. Width is perfect. Height is about my only concern, but that might change once actually cut the feet off.

The feet are riveted to the sliders in a little overkill fashion. I need to just grab some beers and just commit to finishing grinding out the rivets and welds. From there I think its going to move fast. So, my opinion thus far is, this is going to work. Busy time of year with travel and work, so thanks for holding tight with my progress. I am not backing down from this project.

I am going to be following very closely now. I picked up some nice seats today at the pick n pull. I have an extra set of ripped 80 seats to steal feet from. I will also use my parts rig to test fit before swapping them into the 80.

Dang. It is amazing how nice some of these seats look you guys are finding. It's nuts to think how the rest of the LR collapsed around them.

somebody please fab a bunch of brackets for these. I'd buy'em, plus there are aftermarket seat covers etc for these trucks

That's my plan. There are goods ones you can get for Land Cruisers and Land Rover so keeping the same interior color is easy.

Geez Louise - I'd buy whatever bracket/seat/arm rest combo is needed to put these in my 80's!! My 96 front seats are SHOT, though my 97 40th Ann. seats are OK Id still replace them for the LR seats in a heartbeat. The only issue with the 40th Ann. truck is the front seats would no longer match the rest of the interior. On my 96 I really wouldn't care about non matching colors so much since it's our offroad/beach/camping vehicle.

Those look great, I would really like to see how they look with the tan interior. I am really happy how my black ones look with my grey and black interior.

So what year Disco seats should I be searching for, for this project?

You should be looking for seats from a DISCO II, which is 97-04. As mentioned previously in the post not all discos have the seat heating pads, those are the SD models will not automatically have them, so if they do not have the heater switches they are not in the seats. My understanding is the other trim models should have the pads in the seats (even without the switches) but it would be good idea to pull the bottom rear cover off to check if they are there.

I am working on this as quickly as I can. I lobbied and pitched for someone to do this for over a year on every seat thread, so I have finally decided to make it myself and sell it to the masses. I am pretty happy so far with how this is shaping up, I am very excited to see that people have shared my experience finding these in great condition.

I think I will see what you come up with. I could probably make it work but would rather put them aside and wait for a design to be sold to the masses. Too many other project going on at the moment and would rather buy a bracket that is ready to go. Keep it up.

Ok, I will have some more to write about this situation, but since everyone is champing at the bit, I threw up my EeZ Awn, grabbed some drinks and my grinder and went to work. I snapped some photos of the seats in the truck, the photos arent the best but it gives the gist. I would say I spent about an hour grinding rivets with a hand grinder.
