Is there PM list for SuperCharger? When do I need to change the belt, and any other things? I have new belt ready to install.

Thanks,

I'm working on putting together some information on that. If you have the belt, put it in! IIRC even with the fan and shroud on you can jockey the belt off-on in minutes.

If the belt is not cracking or look worn, no need to replace. Same as with fan belts. Take a good look with a flashlight to both sides. If it's looking worn, go ahead and replace since you already have it.

Leave everything else alone with the exception of any cracking or brittle hoses.

The best place to ck for Serp wear is at the idler pulley. This bends the serp belt back, so you can inspect for cracking of the belt ridges. If you have cracks = replace. SC's are also not lifetime parts. One of the biggest issues I see with the Kazuma, is that to top off the supercharger with oil, it needs to be removed from the engine. IME with M90 (kazuma) and M62 Eatons is that the oil level drops in the unit, even with brand new units, oil gets by the seals. Eaton oil can be had (2 oz bottles) from any GM dealer. Magnuson Products is they guy for Eaton supercharger service, and he carries a lot of products and services Eaton SC's. Bounce around on his website at:

A lot of the troubleshooting "contact TRD" in the rear of the Kazuma Installation manual can be replaced with "contact Magnuson".

Scott, is three a mileage on the supercharger you are recommending for the oil inspection?

Has anyone else done this to see if the oil level dropped? I know Cdan has about 60K miles on his.

According to my guy at TRD there is no nose kit available and the blower should be pulled off and sent into Magnuson at ~100,000 miles for a refurb. That supposedly costs about 600 bucks.

It is also a good idea for anyone with a s/c to carry an extra belt. This easily done by just keeping the old one as the spare when installing a new one. They don't run too well with that belt missing.

I've heard the same thing about the oil and I believe Big_Moose serviced my old s/c by swapping in new oil before he installed it. Somewhere I think I remembered reading that you should check it every 20-25K miles?

It's always worth checking hose clamps and the wiring that was relocated too.

C-dan is probably close to out of oil by now if he hasn't. I cked mine on install. I service a couple more traditionally mounted SC's in other applications at my shop. I'd say 20-25k is max, and expect to add a bit more oil than you think reasonable. IME2, if you hear any additional gear whine/noises from normal, or it just 'sounds' louder, probably a good time to remove and do a fluid ck. There really isn't a need to do an oil change (but not a bad idea given you have to do a R&R on the unit for this service) and beware that oil is *expensive*.

100k is considered the max service life of the later eaton SC's (TRD included). I'm a ways away from that mileage, so tough to justify some of Magnuson's mods that are very applicable to the TRD unit.

C-M's point of a spare belt is well taken. Have an extra in the truck somewhere. That said, the belt itself is a common crossreference available at your local Napa or other auto parts store. Best to get that c-r before it snaps though.

Well I've not done anything about it. I was acting according to council from my TRD bud.

Do you know that the oil capacity is?

There is no standard capacity for M90, it really depends on the snout design. I haven't seen a spec listed for the TRD unit, though just about every M90 application I've seen requires <8oz, ~6oz is the norm (read 4oz is never enough to do a complete change fill, that's what the GM dealers sell is 4oz). The standard M90 oil service spec is rotors facing down, unit level, fill to bottom of plug hole.

There are a couple vendors, including Magnuson that sell 8oz bottles, the Magnuson kit comes with allen key, new allen plug, and a bottle of fluid.

Dan, if you are at 60k, I'd definitely at least ck the fluid. There is conflicting opinion on changing fluid (most think it's not necessary). IMO, with a hard to service unit like the TRD, I'd do a swap, not just a fill

If you check the fluid, please post your results.

Now you got him thinkin :D

It will have to wait for warmer weather. Pulling that thing in the driveway right now is not my idea of fun.

Yes, it's got to come off and hit the bench. If I do go to that much trouble I think I'll just keep going and put a head gasket in it.

I'm betting this won't be that bad. The Tbody stays on, the TRD housing manifold stays on, even that "b8tchy" hose from the housing to the manifold stays on.

As my snout gasket has a slight wisp since I got it, I'll post up the R&R for this before I go to Steamboat in a few weeks.

Scott, could you take pictures of the process?

Thanks

Ooooh, did someone say Head gasket? My favorite activity.....

Scott, Did you change the oil in Supercharger? Any pictures? :)
I called Magnuson, and they said its pretty easy to change oil, but warn me that the oil is very stinky... They said I can buy it any GM dealer. I am not sure what to ask at GM dealer? SuperCharger oil?

Another resource

Here's another resource for Supercharger work. They are extremely professional and courteous, and quick to boot.

http://www.psesuperchargers.com/

Their basic business is to rebuild SC's and they have a lot of experience with the TRD stuff.

Dan.
