Which LS motor would be the best and most reliable for swap? Giving up a bullet proof motor and tranny even though under powered is not the easiest choice to make.
So after plenty of searching for a harness how to I decided to look elsewhere. Well I came across Keith Bachman who builds custom merged harnesses for LS swaps. Now we did a lot of talking and info swapping on this. Finally he is confident that he can merge the FZJ80 harness to an LS harness and make it all plug and play with all gauges working using proper adapters and resistors including working OBD2. Well, what do you gents think?
I have a few questions?
Best place to buy new our nearly new (well used) FZJ80 engine harnesses?
How much for the harnesses that are burnt up? Wires can be repaired and replaced?
After we finish the FZJ80 OBD2 I plan on doing the OBD 1 1FZFE and then the 3FE. Any interest in that?
I'm also working on a set of engine mounts that will be either drop or simple weld in. For a simple setup. I'll share all that I find and make it easier for people who don't have the know how out where to start.
If possible I would like a copy of that, working on a parts list for a swapLet me know if you want a copy my 93/94 pin out spread sheet. I put it together to help me figure the interface when I did my swap. A number of people on this board now have a copy of it and I would like to see it get put to good use. Pretty much everything happens through the IH1 and IH2 connectors and if someone could source just the plugs and pins then it could be possible to make a harness that plugs in between the gm harness and Toyota body harness. I had to sacrifice my 1FZ harness to make it work.
It's not bad - given all of the wisdom you've shared here I'm a little surprised by this response. You can easily splice in to the wires at the combination meter connector. Positive trigger, iirc all the neg on the bulbs share a common ground. Possible gotcha is the charge / alt wiring, I don't remember if there is a diode or anything that would isolate that circuit from the indicator bulb. Anyway, just for future reference there's also some blanks in 80 combi meters that you can add extra stuff to as well. HTHbeing in the stock locations but don't know how doable that is
Is there a more recent thread with a vendor doing a complete wireharness for LS swap?
I agree, it probably is two. And I'd be fine with that. Either way, I (and am sure a lot of other non electrical engineering types), would love to look at a beautiful, 2023 wiring harness in my LS swap with a nice diagram that i could easily drop into my '97. I think the problem is that there are different kinds swaps out there and knowing where to merge them is dificult. For instance, I have an entirely GM drive train in mine so how do you hook up the Spedo to the GM Tcase? Thats a different wireing set up than someone who is running an adapter to the OEM toyota Tcase.I've been considering offering this as i have a fulltime wiring harness guy, but moreso the 80 series harness fully prepped to interface with whatever LS harness you use. To me, it doesn't make much sense to make them one single harness. The 80 harness supplies power, gauges and gear indication. The ls harness runs the engine and transmission.

Regaurless. I would happily pay for someone to build and send me new wiring for my swap! at the moment there is at least a market of 1!
Pics? I don’t even see how that’s possible. A NP246 in an 80?My engine, transmission and tcase are from a 2002 Denali

Again on your other thread no one makes a plug and play harnessIt would seem like a feat to pass the front driveline through the oil pan, but who knows.
Thanks for your help! I saw your response.Again on your other thread no one makes a plug and play harness
That’s really really crazy. This was a few months ago before we relocated the fuel tank and put in the drive shafts. Ill take a picture this weekend with it all hooked up.
