Please help to identify my 70's swb exact model. It started out with a petrol engine but the previous owner replaced that with a 1HZ engine. As these were never imported into South Africa history and details are scarce on these.

Thanks in advance guys.

That makes it a FJ70. 70 being the designation for SWB models. FJ being it came with a petrol engine, which is now no longer the case as it has a 1HZ diesel.

Either way, nice truck!

What is the gearbox on it? Can we get a pic of the VIN plate on the firewall or inside the drivers side door pillar?

Booz I will try and get picture tomorrow. Its at the panelbeater currently. Getting all sorted. It has the 5 speed gearbox.

Looks like it says H41 ,isnt that a 4 sp gearbox? Even if it has a 5SP now I have never heard of a 4 sp in a FJ70 , although some BJ75 had them.

The best thing about the 3F was its high cruising speed in 5th gear. A H41 would really nobble it and suck the fuel. The cost savings of the 4sp over the 5sp must have minute.

Nice beemer mate looks 750 to me with those round rocker boxes :)
It has a 1hz engine with a fj75 name plate so someone has done a engine or plate swap check the front left rail for the chassis number.

Thanks Oz. Its a BMW toaster. Chassis number and plate number matches. It received a 1HZ and accompanying gearbox transplant.

Thanks guys now to find a place willing to ship spares to South Africa. Looking for some door rubbers and the indicators on the side of the Cruiser.

Nearly all the body parts are the same as a 75 series troopy, surely there is plenty of them in SA?

Roscoe funny enough the Troopy was never imported in SA in the 75 shape. Troopies only started coming to South Africa in 2009 as the 78 wide nose. So spares for these are quite scarce.

scalpel1, you'll find that the front end has only changed a few times in the landcruiser 70 series lifetime (and Toyota loves raiding their part bins).
Main times being:
  • When the toyota badge was introduced - grill change ('89)
  • When the FZJ & HZJ were introduced - added fender indicators ('91 - '93)
  • When they removed the windscreen hinges on all 70 series landcruisers ('99)
  • Introduction of the VDJ V8 - Wider chassis rails and wide nose ('07)
Any ZJ7x between '93 and '07 should have the fenders indicators to suit yours.
Your doors look similar to the troopys (non-hinged windscreen frame & the door is rounded on the top corner against the windscreen frame).
If so, any vehicle with the non-hinged windscreen frame should have the right rubbers... That'd be any J70 / J71 / J75 Troopy and any post '99 J7x cruiser.

Also, there are some parts houses that ship worldwide, like PartSouq.
If you visit ToyoDIY to get the right part number and enter it into the part house website... Instant quote & delivery estimates.

Cheers,

Trav
