The sty may want to consider the Black Hills of South Dakota for 2018. My understanding is there are plenty of trails, but locals keep them hidden.

Pablo can give some insight on the Black Hills. I believe he has come up for the landcruiser clubs big wheeling weekend a few times now.

North Rim of the Grand Canyon opens up around mid-May. Not as touristy as the South Rim. I've only done pavement so far on two trips but spectacular scenery and a mix from forests to desert. I'm told there are backcountry roads through public lands that could take you all the way to Mesquite if not Las Vegas. Also seem to remember tales of distance and isolation that might require carrying fuel in the backcountry but also make it reassuring to travel in a pack. I'll have to break out some maps. Maybe Evan (fj55-100) has some local knowledge.

I just did the area. It's awesome.

I'm planning a trip to the southern cruiser crawl this October near hot springs Arkansas. I've heard from many cruiserheads that the area is awesome. Ill see if it would be a good fit.

It's a big event in a crowded park. Great for the event but not great for a tag along Gathering of pigs.

North rim / jacobs lake area , soooo much to see around that area , kodachrome basin is right there , zion is there , tons of local trails . by zion at sand hollow park (the new moab) , my vote for this would be swayed , north rim is only 40 min from my house , area in general would make a great family outing . could dip over to escalante grand staircase , for the hole in the rock trail to lake powel . over the burr trail ... but i digress , any info you guys need , i have it

Again......regional Pig parties.........Spring and Fall...........East-ish and West-ish........

I'd help honcho the East in the Spring in the Ozark Mountains. If you have the time and resources to make both.....giddy up!

A travel calculation for me is that it took 17 hours gas and go to travel 980 miles. To travel from coast to coast (approx. 2800 miles) it will take 49 hours one way or 3-17 hour days each way. I'm always up for some kind of challenge. 6 - 17 hour days of gas and go for a 3 day pig party is a bit steep for me since I am not retired. I would hate to miss a good wallow with like minded swine. I'm pretty sure several pigs traveled twice that far and I would be very willing to tackle that.

1400 miles is apout the center of the country, obviously with some variables. That's 2- 12 hour days.

The big question, what arrangement (location) works that can draw the largest gathering of pigs at one event. If that is not needed as part of the equation then I guess finding a stellar venue and get who you can to show up.

Is a pig party about lots and lots and lots and lots of pigs at one time or a smattering of pigs in different locations at different times????

Maybe I'm over thinking it but it would by a glorious site to see 25 or 35 or maybe more sitting in the same wallow, they do exist, how can we best coral them. What carrot will bring them out to play.o_O

Seems like we're all over the country, and honestly, I'd try my damndest to get to wherever PP18 happens to be. But....I'm lucky cuz I'm already middle-ish.
In the spirit of gathering the largest herd of swine, I think location and timing are key to that, like many of ya's already said.
I like the idear of central ish locations. Give or take a few hundreds of miles N,S,E or W.
Summer is most likely easiest for anyone bringing kiddo's who still attend school. Whether they come along or go to "Gam Gam's"....I swear those summer breaks get shorter every year. Early June-Mid August?
Mid summer does make me inclined to think Northerly for temp purposes. Tho, since I spend most of the year neck deep in snow, I could use a good warming up.
Trail options are obviously the high priority.
Soooo....it's only my opinion, but maybe we come up with a decent list. Vote to narrow it down once, cause there's be too many ties (1,2 or 3 votes) then take the winners and have a final vote.

my "wheels" have been put into a pickle jar next to my "lugnuts" after breaking down what would be required to drive one way to the right coast...; so far east would be out for me this year, but would that I could, I would...

First off, I'll be wherever ya'll pick unless I'm dust in the wind, but I'm liking the idea of the North Rim. Wide open spaces and maybe a chance to move camp a couple days. I'm not real fond of the off road parks, crowds, etc.

Second, screw that thing taking the kids to Gam Gam's, us grannies can't handle kids for a week straight. Pops here is only good for a couple days. :)

Man, it has been a little crazy since I got back from Pig Partying with you all. Some things happening at work, spent most of last weekend reviving the dead DD, trying to get ready Black Hills Cruiser Classic starting next week...

It seems there is a lot of enthusiasm for another get together!

I will write some more when I get a chance, just wanted to check in on this for now...

Hope y'all are having an awesome week!

I could live with another CO...the bosses sister just had a kid in Salt Lake City...for that, I just might get to hold a jar or 2 for a few days...
