So, first I'll say Hi. I have a line on a pig. It's been stored for a while, but how long is unknown. I'm dealing with several people, and no one seems to have a clue. They first told me it was a land rover, and at one point even said it was a soft top. I've finally gotten pictures; so, I have at least that much concrete information.
What I can see in photos says the only rust-through is the right fender. The owner thought ahead enough to pull the battery, so I'm hoping that attitude regarding care carried over to other pre-storage activities.

Any opinions on the vehicle based on pictures? Anything you can see right off that would cost me an arm and a leg/is unobtanium?

I just noticed the inspection sticker says May of 2000. That could be a fair indicator of how long it has sat.

1970? '71? Hot water valve to the heater is missing, headlight trim rings, door mirror, vacuum check valve in the brake booster?...looks pretty complete otherwise

Like I said before, the stories haven't quite been accurate. The only conclusion I have for why it was parked was that the owner passed away. His wife is the point of contact now. I have no idea as to the validity of that story though.
I'm just going to have to make the drive to find out all the facts. If only I had a free weekend...

check under the rear bench for the thick bar with a z at the end. that can be used to bar the motor over (slowly, and with the truck in neutral). if the engine feels smooth, than it will be a much easier project than if not. (remember, there will be a compression stroke that will be hard to turn, but you should still feel the crank/pistons/etc moving smoothly).

could be a very promising rig if the price is right. you will most likely have to replace pinion, transfer case output, front and rear main seals. you will also want to do a rebuild on the carb and adjust valves (new valve cover gasket). get rebuild kits for the brake cylinders and the master, also for clutch master, but don't bother with a kit for the slave, just buy a new one (they're only about $25). new hoses, brake fluid and coolant flushes and you're hopefully good to go. i know it sounds like a lot of stuff, but you're really only looking at a few hundred bucks, it's mostly labor and time that will kick your butt.

and keep the funky buckets they put in...they kind of fit the old beast;)

Oh, I definitely like the seats. If that's the back seat I'm seeing in some of the pictures, it definitely doesn't match the new ones though. If it wasn't such a drive to get to the thing, I'd go pour some marvel mystery oil in through the spark plug holes and let it sit for a week, then go turn it a bit. Since my time seems short and given the travel distance, I'm going to have to do most of my drive train investigation in less time than I'd like.

If I can get this thing rolling and painted for less than a couple thousand over purchase, I'll be fairly happy.

I need something bigger than my altima to haul around my upright bass, other instruments, and people.

yup, the back seat is in the fold and tuck position. opens up room for more hauling. bottom is flipped up against the front seat, back is folded down and becomes the floor

Bettin 72. Early floor shift. Key on dash. And vacuum transfer case.

:-). What's the production plate say?

72, I'm guessing also.
Drop down dash pad, no rear vents integrated with the running lights, dash mounted ignition, probably was a column shift originally, 71 and earlier had an oil filler neck on the side of the F engine. Looks like a solid pig!

Well, since you people are making me give this pig serious consideration, does anyone have a paint code/name for that red?

Found out today it's a 72. Maybe more pictures coming from the locals.

Is it 72 that has some wonky interior things that don't fit other years? For some odd reason, that comes to mind.
