Found out today it's a 72. Maybe more pictures coming from the locals.

Is it 72 that has some wonky interior things that don't fit other years? For some odd reason, that comes to mind.

Yea, 8/72 and earlier had some different items. Most notable for me is the dash. CruiserCorps makes a dash for 9/72 and later but the earlier ones need modification. I am unsure what is needed.

Another update, I'm working on scheduling a visit to the beast.
The locals checked it out the other day. I grilled them about rust. The two front fenders both have it in the typical areas. The floor boards are solid. One rocker supposedly has a quarter sized hole.
He claims the body mounts look fantastic and that the frame is in great shape. No signs of gutter rust.

I'm hoping to go see it this weekend and try to turn it over as nuclearlemon described. Anticipation is building.

looks kind of like pueblo brown

I second the Pueblo Brown. Mine is the same funky chalky pink color, but brown in the wheel wells and some door jams.

I'm really digging those front seats. They look amazing!

Well, there is finally and update. I'm going to look at the pig tomorrow. I haven't had a free weekend all summer (or that's how it seems). Won't be going with the intent to pick it up; I'm just going to inspect it, try to turn the motor, and possibly talk a bit with the owner.

I'll probably be back with pictures and noobish questions if people here are willing to look/answer.

I'd love to have the back seat upholstered in the same scheme as the two front ones. That would be pretty fantastic. Having seen pictures posted here of an Pumpkin orange and white pig, and being a Virgina Tech Grad, thoughts of a burnt orange and white pig are dancing through my head.

And as promised, more pictures and noobish questions.
The worst of the rust:

So, being totally new to this game and unsure about things, I have statements and a major question.
First, I turned the motor by hand. It turned smooth. The pig was towed to its current location but was started, somewhat regularly, until about 5 years ago. It has sat since.
The upholstery on the seats looks to be in good shape. No headliner, a couple banged up door panels. The missing headlight surrounds are in the vehicle. Warn locking hubs (one appears to be using duct tape as a seal). The fixed glass weatherstripping is in good shape.

If I get this thing and it turns out to be too much for me to take on, do you guys think I can get 2k out of it? I just don't want to be too far in the hole if this thing turns out to be too much.

Perhaps my question should be, "Am I paying too much at 2k for a vehicle in unknown running shape?".

I've already decided I want the thing, but there are other dissenters in my crowd planting seeds of doubt.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

If you take a bunch of it apart and then decide to sell it, no, I don't think anyone will pay $2k for a partially taken apart Pig with everything in a bunch of little boxes.

That fate probably hits more Pigs than we know...

Is the rolling Pig worth $2k? Maybe. That quarter rust is going to take some work...

Thanks. I was pretty disappointed in the rust I found. The body is mostly solid, but where the few rust spots are, they're definitely ugly ones.
It won't suffer the fate of losing a bunch of parts. My intent in getting it would be to get it running/road worthy then complete body work as time permits. I'm currently studying for my exams to get my architecture license. So, I won't be committing full time to the project. I'll just end up working from panel to panel and fixing.
The 51 chevy floating around in the family has gotten the same treatment. The poor guy is definitely a 20 footer, but runs and looks ok.
