While we're on the subject of tools, my old single stage Craftsman dropped a piston for the second time, this time it broke the housing. So, I decided to upgrade to a dual stage Speedaire - 23.5 CFM's @ 175 PSI. Now I just gotta replumb my line to the compressor:

When I tried to post a few updates, I get this: I went back & deleted a bunch of previous pics in other threads & I always resize my pics but I dunno how to get by this. Anyone know what's up?

I bought this pig from a guy who was going to scrap it in a few days. The rust was really bad and the pics don't show it well. The roof pic was typical of the entire roof (and the windshield frame, and the doors, and the...). I am in the middle of the project and have a long way to go. I need to figure out the doors, roll bar, fix the windshield frame, fix tons of more rust issues, etc, etc. I am trying to get it good enough to get on the road to have fun with it and then fix the rust issues as I go.

Here the The Piggup after the chop. The paint is Zero-Rust and I just sprayed it over everything to just keep the rust at bay until I can fix it. I used to work at Caterpillar and always loved the color combo. I know this is a bastardization of the pig (chopped and color scheme), but I did save it from the recycling bin! It would be great to get your comments and suggestions. I posted this over in Piggy Names (The Piggup). Pardon the cross posting...
Thanks,
Chuck

Finally figured out I needed to renew my silver star, glad I got a reminder.....
Anyway, on to the updates. I got the rear clip welded on, added some reinforcements. I relocated the gas tank filler to the pass side, & started bending 2" DOM for the rear "Avalanche" cage:

Iriwater, looking good man, my pig came from VA as well and it had similar rust issues. It's just good to see it saved. I think it looks good, maybe some 1/2 door a roll bar behind the back seat and a softtop would be pretty sweet.

A Few Updates:

Started boxing out the rear cage area. I gotta do the front cage before I can finish the rear in order to weld through the boxed section. I tied the rear to the frame & will do the same to the front cage: Next up will be the front cage/ rocker protection area.

Rocker Armor

In the middle of bracing my rocker guards.... I'm using 3/16" wall 2X2's where the rollcage mounts (1st & 3rd outrigger), 1/8" wall the rest. I boxed out the front section w/ 3/16" so I can mount a front tube wrapping the lower fender line that ties into the front bumper (next to be fabbed). I'll skin the bottom of the outriggers with (?) not sure yet, so I can slide over rox:

Inner Cage & Roof Rack

Progressing right along building the roof rack & tying it into the innercage, through the roof. On the rack I'm using 2 Hella 4000 Rallye up front & 1 Hella 500 for the rear. It's constructed w/ 11 ga. HREW 1 1/2" bottom rail & 1 1/4" top rail. The inner cage & the rest of the roll cage is bent from DOM. The rack will hold my spare 37" SSR & not much else. I'll stop tellin' y'all what's next cuz I'm always changin' my mind....

Looking sweet man I'm gonna have to see it in person when you finish. Maybe at Tellico or something.

Tire Choice

I REALLY struggled with this one. I wanted to initially run 39", but after looking at having to modify the rear wheelwells, bottom of rear doors, fabbing up new wells, relocate my gas tank filler, & modify the rear seat, I decided not to go that large. I had the marks made where to cut & twice I had the plasma on ready to cut, but I just couldn't add so much more work to justify 39" tires so I settled on 37/ 12.5/ 16.5 SSR's. I trimmed the wells as high as I could go & kept the stock opening oval the same. Pics will be added later.....

Wheel pic:

I finished these a while back. Hummer double beadlocked w/ 3/8" plate centers & CJ Dean's rock ring. I hole sawed all the centers to *lighten them up some. These took a lot of work cuz I bought them & some were slightly bent & had to plasma/ grind out the P.O.'s non effective rock ring:
