Jumping around to the front bumper, I started boxing in the frame w 1/4" plate. The center bolt will be the mount for a thru the bumper shackle. That 3/4" bolt is partially sleeved on both inner sides so the shackle doesn't move side to side:

Instead of fabbin a front bumper from scratch, I decided to use this ol Conn-Ferr tube bumper. It's constructed from 3" DOM tube - quality stuff! I did have to rework some of the mounts & cut it down on the ends (with inner sleeves). You can see where both thru the frame shackle holes are rough cut. Also had to clearance for the roller fairlead. My trusty Ebay 8274 will reside atop the bumper:

Finally done with the shackle mounts. Took more time than I thought to close in where the shackle goes thru the bumper - couldn't get a grinder in there so I had to use a deburr tool in the drill. Used 2 - 1/4" plates sandwiching 2 pieces of 1/4" wall DOM at each end where the 3/4" bolts mount:

Looks good.

I can't wait to see this thing as a whole.

Ryan.

Thanks dude! It's gonna be some time before I take some overall PIG shots - still gotta fab up my link suspension. I just got word today my front 35 spline LC ARB w/4.88's will be here next week & my 14 bolt is getting regeared to 4.88's. I have all the material/ hdwe. for my suspension, so that should move along *smoothly. The only thing I'm not sure about is the front coils/ interference with Scout P/S box. I may go with coilovers there.......

This thing is pretty sweet man, whens your projected finish? MLK weekend at Tellico is calling your name. Time to kick out some sleepless nights.

On Board Air Tank Cage:

Since this will be vulnerable to trail obstacles, hanging off the back, it needs to be fairly beefy. I still need to add a few diagonals & will add some perforated metal, you'll see:

Sorry if I missed it but what are you gonna use to seal around the holes in the roof where the roof rack mounts to the cage?

Chris

That's one of the little things I haven't got around too yet. I'm going to fab some false bases to make it look like it's mounted to the roof, like you see on newer SUV's. Simple design with a rubber padded bottom. I'll see if I can fit that in soon.......

Cool, thats a good idea. And nice tube work by the way :D Cant wait to get started on mine!

Chris

For my security bracket I had to bend up a piece of 1 1/4" tubing on a 180 deg. bend. So, after bending one on a 90 deg. I knew the bend would almost completely collapse. I decided to fill the tube with sand & cap both ends, then start the bend. It worked out perfectly without any deformation at the bend:

Coming along cant wait to see those roof hole caps and the finished product. When is the projected finish? I hope it will at least be at GSMTR.

I haven't even started on the drivetrain yet & it has NO suspension either.... Maybe NEXT GSMTR..... Heck, I may even replace the F with an extra 2F I have & do fuel injection, so I'm really NOT in a hurry even though I work on the PIG everyday........

Dang I was thinking you were pretty close based on how much you have done. Guess I'll have to wait to see it in person a bit longer then I thought. I'm hoping to bring my pig to GSMTR this yr finishing up the front brakes in a couple weeks and getting a nose guard and stinger for xmas.

LC after seeing the work you do, you would have no trouble restoring the 65 LV I have if I decide to sell it. Makes me kind of wish I was not scrapping the 55. Oh well. Mark

Ya, I still want to build an LV or another wagon. I'll have to study which wagon will suit my needs for my ultimate buildup. I have the drivetrain already, but no body or frame yet. I still want to come by & check out your rigs sometime..... Will be in touch.......
