Thank God this didn't break on the highway.

Will be changing it back to normal steering.

What is that, a hydraulic ram? It hard to determine what failed.

It looks like the frt welds were poor and failed a while ago evidenced by the rust. Overall the quality of the welds looks really buggered. The execution seems poor. 2ndly 100% hydraulic steering is not DOT, and should be used in only off road applications. Insurance companies probably wouldnt payout because of the presence of hydraulic ram steering if the vehicle was in an accident.

Yup tracking all that. It’s been on my list of things to fix amongst other things the previous owner half assed. Steering just made it to the top of the list. Will have mechanical linkage and hydro assist.

Parts are slowly showing up at the house.

I picked up the rebuilt coilovers last week. Plan is to send it to land cruiser specialist to convert it to hydro assist, install coilovers in the rear for starters, and electric fans which run off the Sniper system.

And I'm already having issues with the Sniper handheld. Let's see if they stand behind their product.

Started mocking up the suspension. Will need way stiffer springs. We will likely reposition the springs to be outboard a bit more.

I brought Sushi Roll in to get the AC done. I will take it to Solid Axle Summit instead of Penelope since it likely won't be ready in time.

Been busy with events in the Middle East, but got to take Sushi Roll to Land Cruiser Specialist for some last minute things before SAS8. While there got to visit with Penelope.

Finishing up the steering and the cooling system. Waiting on parts, but should be done this week.

I'm excited to test out the hydro-assist steering. At least it will give me peace of mind.

Sushi Roll got a new Aisin fan clutch and shroud. They added a thicker oil to the clutch, and it did great on the highway. 70-75mph (on a flat surface) with the AC on and it never exceeded 195*. It averaged about 188* in the Texas heat with the AC on full blast. It was previously getting into the 200s.

World events have been keeping me busy. I flew back yesterday for some much needed family time but found time to pick up Sushi Roll and Penelope Cruiser from Land Cruiser Specialist.

Here are some of the things that got done to Penelope.
It's now hydro assist, feels much better than full hydro.
Got the radiator moved forward to fit an electric fan.
Got the fuel hose installed so it's easier to fill up.
Relocated the winch and the spot lights.
Rewired the Sniper, it runs so strong now. I can easily get the tires to chirp.
Did the bushings on the leaf springs.
Smiled the entire drive home.

Took her out for a spin. She's been very responsive since the Sniper install. A lot more guts and i like that i can monitor the fluid temps and control the fan from one unit. The steering is great too, gives me more confidence in her.

She managed to top out at 69 mph on a slight incline. I mostly drove it down the neighborhood, but WOT in a small stretch of road.

Who built your hydro assist box? Do they do land cruiser boxes? ARB's going into the 60 now.
Just waiting on parts.

I bought a steering box from O'Reillys and sent it to these guys.

They mostly do Jeep stuff, so call them ahead of time, talk to them about your project and they'll advise you and let you know what you need. Fast turnaround, works great, no complaints.

Thanks, word on the street is they are no longer working on land cruiser stuff? I will have to check again.
I believe I called them a couple or more years ago.

The box I used is one that also works on a wrangler. Call them, if you can tap into one box, you can tap into another.

New shocks, new shock mounts, new limit starps, a truss, leveling spacers, gear oil and all new electrical wiring. I think she's ready for round up.

Picked her up in freezing weather. Was fun, but after a minute I couldn't feel anything. I had to break out some warm weather gear I hadn't used in maybe 20 years. I really like how the electrical came out.
