I recently ordered a rear diff pinion bearing from PartSouq because the US Toyota dealers were all backordered and I was told there were none of these in the US and no ETA. What I forgot to think about was that PartSouq is in the UAE, and shipping from the UAE is currently a bit disrupted and expensive. The good news is that my bearing is in the US at a DHL facility but I need to pay the import duty on it to get it. The tariff is only 2.5% and the bearing is only $51. However, DHL hits you with duty processing fees so the $1.28 tariffs ends up costing $27. That plus $36 shipping makes my $51 bearing cost $114. To add to my first world problem pain, my local dealer called me yesterday and said he had the part in…

My only real point in this post is to remind people where PartSouq is and that the tariffs have an additional cost associated with them (at least for DHL) that make small orders expensive.

Yep Amayama used to be my go to and was always much cheaper than US dealers but with the increased tariffs and shipping costs most of the parts I have bought recently have been cheaper through the southeast dealers that have had sales.

especially with 25% off..

The shipper processing fees can be quite expensive. In the past I have asked for items to be sent via the national mail. USPS does not (yet) charge a processing fee. Shipping via the national system however can take much longer.

As a Canadian, it's rather humorous to see Americans run into this scam. Over here, it's an every day thing for just about anything coming from the US. If you don't have to worry about this for just about every online purchase, consider yourself very lucky!

I recall ordering some $100 worth of car parts (out of the US) for one of my first vehicles some ~16 years ago. I paid more duty/brokerage than the cost of the item, without even factoring in shipping.

Shipping companies are parasites.

Oh man ! I wish I'd checked out Partsouq more closely. I just learned this the hard way. After they are shipped I get a $35 duty due bill to DHL on $135 of parts (sensors for my 62). I surfed around for a while looking for the "best price" and there ya go ! And DHL generally sucks. I wonder if they will show up.

DHL hit me hard on a part I have been waiting 8 months for. It was an automotive part, so it got 2.5% and on top of that, DHL determined that it was raw steel (sway bar) and claimed I was importing steel products for processing and hit it with a 50% fee on top of everything. My $600 part was now over 1k with all the fees. I fought with them for a day or so and told them to stick it and send it back. They kept saying "we already paid the fee to CBP, you owe us $$$." I told them quite clearly that I wished to self import and to send the paperwork of which they refused. Their only offer was to pay the fees and file a claim with CBP and hope to be reimbursed. Hard pass.
