My '78 40 is missing the parking brake handle. Did they change over the preceding years? Will an earlier one work?

There are some differences between a very early handle (1965) and a 1978, but I think the earlier one can be made to work. I would seek out the correct one for your truck, as it will have the electrical switch that turns on the brake light if you leave the parking brake slightly engaged. I'm not sure when that feature was introduced.

I have a bunch of these handles for 75-78 if you need one, send me a PM.

Cheers
Adam

The handle assemblies for US market FJ40's have the same part number from July 1970 - Jan 1979

1/75 is when the round bracket the secures the grommet at the first started so would assume that is the date change. Cable and lever it attaches to changed 3/76. Believe I read the end on the cable was different.
