LOL. Nice! With the price of gas being what it is, that may not be such a bad thing.

In my case, although the '67 does run, the steering is so trashed that I'm pretty much limited to sitting in it too. The highlite of my week is moving it across the street on street cleaning day. I don't have to make the 'vroom vroom' noises myself though. And with my '65, I'd need to move a whole bunch o' :censor: just to be able to sit in it. With that one, I go to the garage, close my eyes, and imagine how good it's going to look with a shiney new paint job.

I guess we all enjoy our Cruisers in our own way.

I almost forgot to mention that my '65 lv has been immortalized on film. It appeared in an episode of Melrose Place in the late '90s. I know you all used to watch that show. OK, maybe not. It was a piece of crap show. The important thing to remember though is that Heather Locklear's fine butt sat in the passenger seat. For real.

Obviously I watched this particular episode. It is the one and only time I ever watched that show. The car was used as a taxi in Mexico, I believe. When Ms. Locklear got out of the car and closed the door, instead of hearing the sound of an lv door shutting, they "voiced-over" the sound of a big sedan door closing. Pretty funny.

Mark, of MarksOffRoad.net, does rebuild old steering boxes.....;)

I am not sure what year my truck was made for or what country it was first sent to other then what I was told and that was this truck is an 83 and was shipped here from the Saudi area. As far as I can tell this truck is an 80 and definitely not from around here. It came with A/C, Power steering, H41, I think vacuum distributer/carb & ff rear end. The plate in the engine compartment calls it an fj45 lp-k with no other letters or #s after that. I am in the poses of replacing the non US 2f & H41 with an 12ht&h55. I will be removing the power steering and putting it into my 82 fj40 along with the H41 & A/C and then replace the steering with the 4x4 Labs setup and since the 12ht came with the A/C compressor and power steering pump I will not do with out those comforts. I can not wait to finish this project and drive it.:D

Marc drove that thing as a DD for a while. Took it out wheel'n with the club at least twice. I doubt the steering is "trashed" I think after years of driving your 60, you forgot what 40-year-old cruiser's drive like. That said...Idave is right, the steering box can be rebuilt.

OK, "trashed" may have been a bit of an exaggeration...I do that sometimes. I sent a recent email to Marc, and in it I said he must have some big arms to have driven that Cruiser off road.

I think the box is in pretty good shape...it's the linkage that is sloppy. Not a problem to fix, but she wanders all over the road right now. But you're right, I'm probably a bit spoiled by the 60.

Knuckle...it's the knuckle that's in rough shape. Names...pfft...whaddo I know from names? The knuckle opens up like a Pez dispenser when the steering wheel is turned. I'll tell you though, I've taken her out for a ride each of the last 2 days and the more I drive it the better it feels. I got what I need to fix the knuckle though, so I'll take care of that soon.

One other thing though...If you grab the top of a front tire and pull towards your body, it makes a clunking sound. Not sure if this is related to the knuckle, tie rods, or something else. Anybody?

No more thread killers!!!!

Anyway i feel that there are not enough troopies posted so here's mine.

 Mark

Hey Hemroid Killer, does your 45 have a lift. I have 33x10.5 on mine with a 2" belton lift and I find that my front tires rub on the springs a bit. Not enough to realy damage the tire, but I am thinking of adjusting the stops to prevent it. The front tires also hit the front of the fenders under extreme flex and it makes a terrible sound, although no damage. My fenders are quite beat up so they may be bent down a bit. I have other fenders that I will be putting on soon and that may fix the problem. Nice looking truck by the way.
