Wanted to start this thread now so others can start thinking/planning on it. I will be there (and get another window sticker). I did enjoy this event, great driving the obstacle course too.

Last year, the Land Rover club had a prime spot, lots of rovers of various vintages, creating their own "LR village" thing. Was actually pretty cool. Wondering, if we get enough Land Cruisers, can we do the same and do a "cruiser village"?

We're planning to go again this year. Last year we got there after the rain, and they were diverting people into the open field next to the road instead of letting them into the main campground. Still, we had a great time. Didn't see many Yotas. Tons of Rovers and Jeeps.

We will be there again this year, most likely on Sat. Maybe Sun if we have to go help Jerry find his keys :) This is right up the mountain (1 hr) from us.

I'd love to go. I wanted to go last year but school work prevented me from going. Let's see how this year goes.

In fact, we could go up the night before and go through Hurricane Creek and roll into ExPo East dirty and well used...

Overlaps with the anniversary again. Don't think I can convince the Mrs. to allow this to happen.

I'll be there.
Went last year and had a great time. I actually met @Izzyandsue during one of Scott Fields recovery classes.
I am planning on heading that way EARLY Friday morning to try to get a decent spot. I'd like to be on the rise overlooking the pond.
I think the rover guys guys pride-of-place due to the Rover sponsorship and the course queue being right there.
The wife and kiddies were supposed to go last year, but the kids got sick. She's already agreed to sign on this year. Kids take zero convincing

...just waiting for that "Registration Open" email to come through...

If you are doing the experience package, don't wait to sign up for classes. Some fill up PDQ.

Johnny, what woman doesn't want to spend her anniversary in a tent surrounded by her man's drinking buddies talking cars and dirt?

I am definitely going again, if I am back in NC during that time. Been spending the majority of the this year in the Pacific NW so far. If I am in NC, I plan on going a day or two early to hit up some trails near Lake Toxaway. Havent been on those trails since the good old days of Tellico and I have always wanted to go back. BTW those trails are near bust ass falls if anyone is wondering where they are.

This was a blast last year. Took the kids and the dog and had a great time even with the overnight temp falling below freezing. Im in. Now if only we can get @cboyd to come down.

^^^^^^. That! Temp fell down to freezing and I said "FTP, go camp in the Hampton inn", I was not prepared for that. We can decide on a good spot like Jim says and create our space. I like proximity to food, showers, and related amenities.

I know where toxoway is, but don't know any trails near there besides Horse Pasture Road. Are there other roads or trials? Thanks

Haven't been there in a very long time, but if I remember correctly the trail starts right off 281 past bust ass falls. Entrance is on the left. After you go in there was a state forestry sign warning that you must have 4wd to enter and that you enter at your own risk. Last time I was there was in 96 or 97. Was driving a 1990 4wd Hilux at the time and a forest ranger drove down quite a ways to warn us. He was concerned that I did not have large enough tires or lift for the water crossing. Like a typical college student I ignored him and put my faith in the Toyota. It did make it but there were several pucker moments. Looking back it was a terribly dumb thing to do cause it was my first ever water crossing and it was pure luck I made it across. Friend I went with was on 35's so he had no issues. Ranger was really cool about everything. I planned on going there last year before O.E.E. but did not have the time. Really want to find this trail again.

This could be it. Turtleback falls is the star on the first map, the road or trail is on the bottom left side. I assumed you were driving away from the falls and turned south, this road is FS 87, not on goooglemap but on my off-road maps, and it crosses a blue line. Entrance location is 35°04'40.9"N 82°59'37.0"W. I might be able to check it out in 2 weeks, at least the entrance and see if it is open.

Second image shows the road, ending on a walking trail. Crosses the Thompson River.

Registration for the Overland Experience package is now open. Registration for day passes and weekend passes opens in September. We just did the weekend/camping pass last year, but I might spring for the Experience this year.

So this trail was outside the now closed/bulldozed Tellico trail system?

Nope this trail has nothing to do with Tellico and it is certainly no where near as challenging at Tellico. I used to live in Brevard back in the 90's for a few years and this was just one of the trails we would go to when we did not have the time to make it all they way to Tellico. I was in Brevard last year and was able to find one of the other trails we used to frequent all the time, but I always wanted to go back to this particular trail and just never found my way out there since its a good ways past Brevard. From what I understand bust ass falls is no longer open to the public, so this trail might be closed down as well. However, if I make my way out there I don't care if I am getting arrested, I am going down that waterfall again. There is nothing else like it in NC.

HI, new here in North Carolina, just moved a week ago to Huntersville. I will be going to the Overland Expo, can you post pictures of your rigs to find you and make Cruiser friends around the area.
