Want your advice...

Vinyl flooring or "Rhino" liner???

Plan on using this pretty good "like a truck" so keep that in mind. My thinking is Vinyl will probably require occasional removal and cleaning underneath. Liner wouldn't need anything, but if repairs were needed in Honduras this could be harder? Vinyl is cheaper and easier to install as well.

Thoughts? Thanks!

My 4r has the dlx vinyl flooring, with rhinoliner underneath it. It had no jute or sound deadening. After 3 years of driving it around like that, I've been putting some moving blankets under the vinyl, and installing carpet over the vinyl. Helps with noise, temps, etc. If i need to, I can pull the carpet out of the rear if im hauling something messy. Each has its tradeoffs

That's good insight. I know Al's Liner has a sound deadening liner you can apply before the regular liner. Maybe I'll look into that, but then price is twice and extra thick flooring means new bolts likely needed for seats, etc. Thanks!

I plan on rolling out that frost king ac duct insulation out on the floor to help with insulation and quieten it down. Its 1/8 inch or 1/4 inch butyl foam, alum foil, and adhesive. $17.00 a roll at Lowes. I used it on my doors( each door took about 3/4 of a roll to do inner and outer doorskins), and it was a HUGE improvement. its light weight, nowhere near the cost of dynamat (or cruiser crap, but its not in the same league as either too). I need to quiet down the exhaust drone that gets old after a couple hours on the road. I figure for about $100, i can do the entire floor over the spray in liner, the inside of the rear quarters (both outer skin, as well as seal up under the plastic trim panels). Another $15.00 worth of harbor freight moving blankets cut to fit, and I've got insulation, jute, vinyl, then carpet to insulate the cabin.

Ive got enough carpet from home depot (shaw's commercial indoor/outdoor product) to do the rest of the truck, and not need longer bolts for anything. It will also be easily removable to clean, replace, etc. The carpet remnant i bought from Home Depot was $22.00 or so with tax. Much cheaper than the carpet or vinyl kit youre looking at. If i went with their product, Id get their mass backing added for $90.00. adds sound deadening and insulation, and its bonded right to the carpet. or vinyl.

On my old 1987 4r, i went dynamat in the rear quarters, and replaced the rear plastic trim with 3/4 inch mdf panels that held a pair of 8 inch subs in each panel. I found some fabric that was the exact same as the existing interior, (11 yards of it, for 3.00 a yard on clearance). The downside, it added a quite a bit of weight in the rear, and exaggerated the saggy diaper look as the rear leafs settled.

This is the company that makes the liner is this: http://auto-interior.com/toyota1.htm#8489

That's the place I got my interior carpet, it is VERY nice, and I did get the heavy duty backing. But it takes a long time to install, like 2 days. You need a very sharp carpeting knife and a good pair of strong scissors. These Klein electrician scissors are awesome at cutting out the little detail stuff:

I don't think you could use generic carpeting remnants, it will look like crap and not sit well in the "tub" of the body. Needs to be molded to the shape of the floor, which is what the kits are.

Good to know someone that bought from them and liked it. Leaning towards the vinyl w/backing.

Now if I could find some new vinyl seat covers!

Ok so this may be stupid, but I cannot find my antenna for my radio. It's not on the right fender and there's no hole for one either. Am I missing something?
