I'm not doing it just for visibility. That's not typically a problem I have in this thing, but it does help a decent amount in my seating position. This also puts my door at the correct height to be comfortable for my arm on 8 hour drives, and this sheds a decent amount of weight for the summer trips. I'll be on Rubicon at least twice this year with both kids and the dog, so having enough material on there is still important to me. This also lets me use the factory hinges and latches and releases. When I have a clear weekend I'm going to hang them all and see if I want to change anything, but it probably won't be much

Those will make excellent stoarge pockets with all the window stuff removed. Are you gonna cut them like the tan mini pic ? FWIW I hate that look, much prefer the 40 soft door profile, looking forward to your creation, I really like how you figure on something and just do it, see you on the trail.

I get it if it works for you that’s all that matters.

I don’t mind the looks of the tan door and I think guy’s do it that way so the can utilize the hinges and the latch.
I do find myself hanging my head out the window to see better on some obstacles.
So having it cut down would definitely be beneficial for me.
But there no way I’m giving up full doors and windows in my rig, for me keeping the AC in and the dust out is a high priority.😎

Are you going to Rubithon next year be great to check out your rig and see it in action!

Yeah, my two boys will be out with me this year. They skipped this past year. I grew up with 40s that had soft doors that followed the line from the hinge at the windshield frame to the top of the tub at the back. Following the body line on the 80 seems like it fits more for what I like

I don't particularly care for the look and this gained me enough that I'm happy. I'll know for sure when I get them on to double check everything. I wouldn't give up those creature comforts either, but a/c hasn't been a thing on this Cruiser since long before I got it, so dust it is.

Yeah I'll be at Rubithon for sure. I have a lot more building in between then and now lol

This weekend was pretty productive. I got 6 1/4 inches cut out of the body and most of it lined back up to within a blade of where it needed to be... with the exception of the roof. I don't know what I was doing when I made those marks and cuts, but I'm easily half an inch off. Got most of it welded back in place. Body mounts are only tacked in place, and the lower 6 or 7 inches on both sides need to be massaged into place with a hammer to get them to line up. They've been tweaked pretty bad in the past. Little things to finish this up will come this week and into the weekend. We'll see what I do with the window frames. They line up, but that glass is heavy, as is the rear hatch. Surprisingly heavy considering it doesn't have the wiper motor in there anymore. Then lots of grinding and some primer this weekend. Half way through cutting the thought crossed my mind to just get rid of the whole body behind the front seats, leave the lower section, weld the rear doors shut and have a big pickup. Hot and sticky in the sun mixed with metal glitter and plasma burns ruins everything

If I ever get to this point, I will flat bed behind the rear seats and install a duster like I have i my 40 for cold weather. And of course shorten the rear.

I definitely considered that, but this this still hauls wife and kids on adventures occasionally. It's nice to keep rain out and heat in for them, but if this continues, I can't say what happens in the future

Understand. Mine is strictly for offroad/crawling. My LX or the wife's GX is for light offroad/camping.

This weekend I went out to play in the snow with some locals. This may be the last time I wheel the way it is now. I have parts piling up and a list of things still to buy and do and some more important decisions to make before everything gets burned in, but I think I have an idea

Yeah, I daily mine through the winter when I can't ride the motorcycle as much. We have a Sequoia that does the light duty stuff just fine, but my Cruiser will spend a huge chunk of it's summer crawling. At least 2 of it's Rubicon runs this year will have the whole family in it I believe

Someone is getting ready for a revenge run in 2025

Hopefully I can have my solar hooked up
And my pull out kitchen and 270 awnings installed by then

So in the last couple weeks, I managed to send these boxes out and have them come back put together. Now to pull the 9.5 that's currently in the rear and send it out to be rebuilt and put this one in it's place. The one that's currently in the rear will become the front diff.

Me and a buddy with an 80 series were texting the other night, and I told him I don't understand why more built 80's go to 9.5 front diff when 3-linking. Its not much work to build a 9.5" front axle if you are going through the work to 3 link. Looking forward to this!

I don't either. I get a much stronger housing out of better steel that'll be easier to weld my link and coil mounts to, I get a 9.5 front and can keep my RCVs and hubs and get to choose my caster angle from the get go
