Anybody ever buy a car from CA? My brother in law is giving me a 350z and is sending me the title. CA is a non notary state so I think he just signs it, sends it to me, and then I sign and take it to the DMV. Ive never bought a car from a non notary state so I just want to make sure I am not missing anything.

I bought my 60 from out of state (non notary) and the local dmv here gave me zero trouble just said they follow the rules based on the state the title is from.

Exactly. Same as when I registered moonshine in NC from NY, and as when I bought my ford in TX.

Good point, its an 06 so hopefully its fully depreciated in their schedule by now.

Do some research to see if its easier for him to sell it to you for a dollar, or give it to you for $0.00.

He is going to gift it to me, which will save him on his end. On my end, my understanding is that if you buy it from a dealer they charge you based on the sale price, but if you buy it, or get it from an individual they use a value base on their book value of the car.

Fun - is it manual? What color?

We had a 1970 240z growing up. First car I ever rode in at triple digits. ;<)

Pretty much. I never used a notary till I moved to NC, then I had to use them all the time now only on houses.

The Renault engines in those things are pretty cool also.

Powder coating in the Triangle?

I found a place nearby called JC Powder Coating near Friendship - 5-Star Google Rating - would prefer a recommendation, though :)

Wife states the new sliders have to be powder coated vs my paint job, which I thought was awesome on the Tundra! :)

@weejub Try the solution @roadstr6 uses. Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy paint. I used that on my sliders with the only prep being a wipe down with acetone. no sanding and no primer. I think I used 3 cans. First two coats are light tack coats, then a heavy coat or two. It hardens in about a week.

Once powder gets scratched, youll be using rattle cans anyway.

@weejub I may have found your adventure van. it's got a sauna.....

Yea - Johnny talked me off the ledge on that already. I liked the idea of the tops being nicer looking and lasting longer vs paint, but not worth the $$ I guess.

On the Epoxy - sounds awesome - no primer? Am I better off priming it or does that even make things worse?

I had to have my Tundra sliders blasted, then I primer'd them - a LOT - then used just Pro Rustoleum Satin - a lot. Not real happy with that as It showed primer where I would hit it with my foot getting in and out after about 3 months. Had to touch up more than I would have liked.

Doesn't really matter. Primer can help with paint adhesion, and red oxide primers can even add corrosion inhibiting properties, but we're talking about sliders. No coating known to man will stand up to rocks.

Any old spray paint will work. I like rustoleum industrial paints.

Get some traction tape for where you step. Traction is a good thing anyway and there is no paint scratching. Just don't use tape with abrasive since you will likely rub your leg on it. I used this and cut as needed. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I511BDQ/?tag=ihco-20

Yea - I get it on the bottoms - I am looking for the best solution on the tops where rocks don't typically rub - just feet.

The Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy is a glossy paint. I don’t use primer with it. Let it fully dry for at least 24 hours between coats or it will crinkle. It lays down really nice and looks very professional. I had been having trouble with the Rustoleum Industrial stuff clogging up on me. It was happening so often that I went searching for an alternative. I found websites where folks were painting entire cars with the appliance epoxy so I gave it a try. Boom! Hooked. FWIW, Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy in biscuit color is a damn close match for Cygnus white. I used it on the roof and bezel of the Crockpot six years ago. Still looks like new.
