One quick wheel question!

Just a real quick question before I order the wheels.
Will a wheel with 5" back spacing fit on our axles? (Stock rims have backspacing of 4.5"). I've read what I can find but nothing concrete. My understanding of backspacing seems like it will

Are you trying to suck the tires in closer to the frame? I can't imagine why they wouldn't work so long as the tires aren't much wider than stock. Otherwise you're just increasing your steering/scrub radius by not allowing your turn without contacting the frame.

The rims I am looking at are 17x9 with 5in backspacing. If I put a 1/2" spacer on the axle then my understanding is that it will return the wheels to the stock stagger? (Same distance from the frame)

All FJ Cruiser and 5th gen 4runner wheels will fit. Check their backspacing. I think its around 5.5

Had no problem with 5.5 even with 13.5" width. Small amount of rub on frame rail when stuffed (no bump stop spacers) As others said you should be fine.

Question is did you decide steel or aluminum?
