Ok, LC 100's are tough to find. How hard is it, to make a 470 have Toyota LC badges?

I have an LC, and wish I had gotten an LX. What's your budget? I'm in socal! can you afford $30k? lol

Marketing is a funny thing sometimes but really the LX and LC are twins. After reading this maybe I am glad I have the LX.... Number 11

That's my foofoo Lexus.
And with the Land Cruiser badge it makes 20 extra hp and an extra 5 mpg, and puzzled confusion from the service rep writing up the work ticket.
The Lexus foofoo is strong however, and the looks you get from Jeepers as you roll past them on the Metal Masher trail are priceless.

I was waiting for it.
The Kalifornia attack.:D

You don't care about your "image" in texas
So you don't wash your clothes or have a mirror in your home?

And I found a thread.
Here's my favorite pic

We've got one of each, and while I prefer the frontend looks of the LC, I prefer the performance of the headlights and creature comforts (memory seats/sound system/ folding mirrors/ gauge lighting/etc) of the LX.

I guess I just don't get the "not Lexus people" thing. Maybe I'm just a pretentious a****** and I just don't know it, or I could just be oblivious to the Lexus stigma.

I'm in east Texas, in a big city, and see more Rovers/Lexus/LC/Escalades/Tahoes/Suburbans, in my neighborhood, than I do Fords and Dodges.

Considering that the LX470 was sold in some markets as the Land Cruiser Cygnus, it shouldn't be too hard to swap the physical badges. You may have to pay a JDM premium for the items though.

Cygnus (LX470) / 2001 Toyota Landcruiser Cygnus Multivision UZJ100W for Sale and Export from Japan

You'll still have Lexus markings on things like the glass, nav splash screen if so equipped, engine cover, air bag cover, door sill covers, running boards, center (hub) caps. You'll also have lower cladding, grill and headlights. If you throw enough money at it I guess you could change those too.

Or you could just jump in and drive the "L" branded Land Cruiser, and eat the cookies at the Lexus dealer.

Of course you'll need one of these "Official" Lexus Trail Team Stickers!

To actually answer your question, the rear badges are pretty self explanatory. Careful use of a heat gun and some adhesive remover will take care of the "Lexus" and "LX470" badges (the V8 one too, but that one doesn't seem to be an offender). The "L" badge comes off the same way, however, some models of LX 470 had holes under the rear Lexus emblem. I know my '00 did. I think in either case you can replace it with a non-post sombrero badge from an LC.

The real issue is the front grill. Toyota badges don't fit, so you would have to swap the entire grill to a JDM Toyota Cygnus grill:

These are not easy to come by, since even in other global markets the Toyota Cygnus became the Lexus Cygnus and got the "L" as well.

Another option is to go the TEQ route and buy the badges from BH3D. You can replace the front and rear "L" badges with these and make people really scratch their heads. Here's my front:

A third option, which is what I'm planning on switching to, is to own the Lexusness (Lexicity?) and just badge it as an overseas Lexus Land Cruiser Cygnus:

You get the Land Cruiser badge so you don't have to keep explaining that it's an upgraded LC, you have the simplicity of keeping the "L" and you get to keep the dignity of having actual, real vehicle model nomenclature.

I grew up in a very conservative home with parents that did everything they could do to not stick out. My dad was white collar but our neighborhood was very blue collar. I don't know exactly how to explain it but my dad was very aware of the income difference and spoke to us often about appearances and how we weren't ever any different from our neighbors, which was true, he saved every penny he could.

Anyway, I'm a grown man now and started to look for a 100 two years ago. I live in a lower/mid middle class neighborhood and had some of the same concerns when I found two rigs and the one in better condition with less miles was the LX. I bought it but was careful about how I talked about it with my scouts and around my neighborhood friends. One of the scouts asked how much I had paid for my LX and rather than tell him I said how much they cost new and then joked about it sarcastically the rest of the summer camp. It took him a few days to realize that I was messing with him but in the end the issue is/was all in my head. Whats the difference of me spending 2x,xxx on my LX and the guy across the street spending 35-40k on a JKU Rubicon or 50K on a truck? Its taken me a bit to get over being self concious and there are times when it comes back to the front of my mind but I just can't worry about how others perceive me or judge me for how I choose to spend my money. Maybe its just me being more comfortable with myself and where I am in life.

I refer to my LX as "my land cruiser" to non Toyota people and nobody has batted an eye. A few of the Toyota guys in my club hassle us Lexus owners but its all in good fun and depending on the run the Lexus' out number the Toyotas.

I agree with Rami though, you gotta rep the pink panty.

One side note about being on the trail. A couple weeks ago at Cruise Moab I was running Black Dragon Canyon with a group and we got to a section that has a tree on the driver side and a rock wall on the pass side with a little shelf of shale rock about 4-6" off the ground. You have to get on the shelf with your pass tires but not get too far over or you'll kiss the rock wall while navigating around the way overgrown tree. I've see a couple buddies not get the line right and rip out their sidewalls, so that is the consequence of getting it wrong. I was picking my line and got a little closer to the rock wall than I wanted to be but paused for a minute and pushed my go go gadget fold the side mirror button and they did. The guy behind me in an 80 noticed that and called me out on the ham radio asking if I really had push button mirrors. I confirmed it and expected some ribbing from the crew but didn't get any.

The LX470 does have some nice upgrades of the LC. I don't know what all of them are but they are there. There are also some "upgrades" I'd like to have gone without since I've had some issues with them.

This last pic is showing some rough terrain from South Eastern Utah. The water is deeper and the slope is steeper than I was really comfortable with but I walked it first to make sure I'd be okay.

Embrace the "Lexus-ness". Nothing more satisfying than clearing things and hearing people exclaim: NO way a Lexus can DO that! People expect/know LandCruisers can do special things. They don't know the LX can do those same things and few others (adjustable suspension, power folding mirrors.....and real wood trim). Funny thing, I had someone in a Jeep this past weekend say that a LandCruiser could do it, but didn't know a Lexus could. I just smiled and proceeded up the rock/ledge strewn trail.

Hey, when you grow up around 40s and 60s, you have an affinity for the word Landcruiser.
Thanks for all the responses, pics, and stories.
I sure do love Mud.

I think the 100 forum has a slightly different vibe then 60 or 80 forums.
Damn Millennials!

So I apologize.
I didn't realize calling Lexus "foo foo" would trigger some of you
I will try to keep a Lexus safe space in the forum entitled "100 Series Cruisers"

I think the main issue at work here is that Landcruiser owners have trouble accepting the fact the the LX is the better vehicle. It's ok though, it's a multi-step process. ;)

I'll agree, but the ticket for me was a factory rear locker ;) Plus, what's the benefit of the L once you've got no doors and possibly only part of your roof left? #longtermgoals
