Oil pump cover screw question

I always thought the proper way to measure a bolt or screw is threaded length only, NOT INCLUDING the head length??

Joey beat me to it, but flat head screws are total length including head. But seriously, we are only compressing an o-ring. I'm sure 7 M6 screws with 4mm of thread engagement can get the job done.

They seemed to be very close to the new oem screws. I did buy the orm screws first but ended up taking them back in favor of the torx.

Worked great on mine and countless others.
I ordered 100 when I bought them.

USE HEAT TO REMOVE THE OLD ONES. A Pencil torch is perfect.
Heat, PB Blaster, Impact, Heat, PB Blaster, Impact, Repeat and they will break free.
You have aluminum and steel therefore dissimilar metals therefore galvanic corrosion.

I buy the screws in bags of 1000 and use as part of the rebuild kit.

This is a 2 second check.
Drop the screw in the cover and see how much thread sticks out the back.
I think your fine as cover is mostly just the countersink.
If that gasket doesn't want to lay in the cover flat secure it with some Vaseline.

So I noticed in the kit I received that the new screws are shorter than the original. Was the consensus that it should be fine? The original screws came out fast and clean. Also is there torque specs. Thanks.

Yes, they work perfectly fine. Have been used numerous times. I haven't seen a torque spec I guess because they're just screw-in. You'll know when they're tight. A true testament to this forum that we can have a 3 page discussion about pump cover screws.

View attachment 1203795 So four threads on the hex screws make it past the cover. Seven threads make it past the cover on the OEM fastener. @Hornd are the fasteners you're distributing the same length as the OEM? As of right now I'm going to go back to the OEM after seeing this.

Dunno if anyone is still having trouble with this. Found the bolts on Amazon
