What is a realistic and practical interval for oil change for a 2002 landcruiser 100 Amazon diesel? The serviceman says 3,000 km only.

5,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first. Oil is cheap, engines are not.
The serviceman says 3,000 km, but I "defiantly" do 4,000 km (i.e. 2,500 miles). I find the interval too short and expensive.

That seems like a very short interval. Have you looked at Mobil 1 Annual Protection products? Not sure if that would be worth the price.

1HD-FTE Diesel
Normal service interval 10k KM or 12 months
Severe 5k KM or 6 months

If you have a way to submit your oil for an Engine Oil Analysis, you can fine tune your intervals better.

Depends on your oil & what your driving habits are.

Off-Roading, dusty conditions, pulling a trailer or etc. with cheap non-synthetic oil, I would change at 3,000 miles.

Long distance Interstate driving with a high grade synthetic oil & good oil filter, I have changed at 10,000 miles.

In +35 years of driving nothing but older & high mileage vehicles, I have never blown an engine in anything.

P.S. The above info is for gasoline engines.

8k miles on Mobil 1 10k filter and Kirkland Synthetic oil and Blackstone said the oil looked great. With full-synthetic oil and OEM filters I do about 7,500 miles... but that's just me.

My Aussie spec 2003 FTE oil changed religiously at 10,000kms but only using mineral oil (Valvoline Super Diesel 15W-40). Still running like a (slightly rattly) Swiss watch at 480,000kms. OEM filters when I can, but not scared of using aftermarket every now and then.

I change my oil when it’s dirty. Regardless of mileage or timeage.

Diesel engine oil looks black /dirty almost immediately after changing. This one takes 12 qts each interval.
