OH CRAP! Bet you never had this happen before!

I heard put some vinegar in a glass and let it evaporate. Just don't recall how much or how long that takes. Sorry to hear. Looks like I have the same brand, going to check now.

Yeah, there are Chinese imposters being sold out there and this is exactly what they do.

Buy directly from the manufacturer.

You can buy fire-proof storage bags for lipo batteries. They are used primarily in the RC world to contain the fire in case the battery goes kaboom.

Which color did you chose from Lseat ?

I went with the Ivory leather. They had EXCEPTIONAL customer service as well. When I first ordered them, I accidentally ordered for the Land Cruiser and not the LX. Did not realize this until a week and a half later. Send them an email and sure enough, they have them made already and were sending them out the next day. Typical for me :bang:. I tell them my dilemma and they told me that it was no problem, they would send out the right covers along with console and arm rests asap. I asked them about a restocking charge, again the said it was no problem and just charged me for the arm rests and center console which were an extra $45 dollars anyway. I will not hesitate to buy again. Few people out there will cover you for a mistake you made! Fortunately, I had not had a chance to install the arm rests and center console yet...

Unless you ignored the instructions and subsequent disclaimer, the jump starter manufacturer should reimburse you. Oh and why title a thread so generically?

Not sure why the title now that I am thinking of it. First thing that came to mind with forum appropriate language. God knows it was highly inappropriate up to that point . Sorry lord...

So, i read this and decided to check on mine... just cause.....
I found this. ...

It's ballooned, and had this funky smell of burnt...... stored in between my 60 during long trips and in the garage....

It's sitting (and staying there) in the middle of the patio....

Thank you for posting this.... scary..... crap

WOW! Well, if I just save one cruiser's life, sacrificing a seat was worth it!

Well that is the first time I had seen these before. I wonder how they contain the heat? As hot as this thing got, I would think it would still transfer the heat to the materials in the immediate area. Smoke damage would still be a concern as well. Does anyone have any experience with these and a battery rupture?

Lucky it wasn't lithium. It could have exploded and when exposed to water it creates lithium hydroxide. Very very dangerous stuff. It could have killed her worst case scenario...

My uncle’s old boat dealership wouldn’t install Noco brand gear that customers supplied - they had a trickle charger that was a Noco-forged piece burn the electronics & insulation off everything in the proximity on the bulkhead where it was mounted (welded AL hull) - but it’s why you occasionally see Noco stuff for 1/3 normal $$.

They kept a picture of that burned unit on the wall back by the parts/maint counter.

Sorry to hear this. I will be checking mine today.

Where did you buy it? You will have issues with warranty if you didn't purchased it directly from Antigravity or an authorized reseller (i.e. not amazon).

I think it is ok to use water to extinguish in this situation. Li polymer contains very little pure Li metal to react with water.

Dam I leave my Noco Genius in my Landcruiser maybe I should stop doing that.

I do, too. Noco at least is a "land cruiser" version of these small jumper packs. Not to say it won't happen, but I trust the company better than others from my experience using their marine charging systems.

I just read Linus's post and I am guessing that might have been why we also had a "no customer supplier parts" policy.

In case this happens to others: How Do You Put Out a Lithium-Ion Battery Fire?

I have the exact same brand as this one in the picture from @MANUCHAO . What brand was the one that caught fire?

I have the same brand as well (Antigravity XP-10). I am going to go check it right now .

I have kept mine in the tailgate storage panel for 1.5 years so far with no issues. At least storing it in a fireproof bag would be a start.

Betcha it was a knockoff like mine was. It was swelling BADLY so I got rid of it, after it stopped charging and broke the connectors in seperate instances. Buy once cry once.

my heart goes out to you @Azca. Glad you were able to minimize the carnage! Thanks for warning the rest of us. I was just about to buy the Harbor Freight model just to save some weight over the big jump starter I've been packing around in the recovery draw. Here is the one i was contemplating:
Lithium Ion Jump Starter and Power Pack

It is also a lithium ion unit. Your personal nightmare notwithstanding, does anyone have experience with the HF model melting, exploding...or otherwise?
