My wife drives by their everyday and saw it I can stop and take a look at it this weekend if you would like me to. They have an 04 there also that we did look at that was super clean and fairly low miles but was out of our price range when we were searching for a 100
If its not too much trouble that'd be great. Wondering about the underside, looked like the hitch might have been a little rusty.
I like the '99 (RR Locker), but what were they asking on the '04?

The High Point Sears is sporting signs out front that they are closing the store and prices are discounted.

Maybe that store had already announced the closure prior to this latest round of store closures?

to be perfectly honest. I know squat about them.

120 series/aka lexus gx470 is built on the same platform as the fj cruiser and the 4runner. when the hitech doodads fail (AHC, magnetic shocks, etc) fail, you can use fj cruiser stuff to replace it. I've got a 2008 gx470 that is like driving a sports car compared to my 80 series, and can get me around 21 + mpg on the highway (stock, driving like a grandma).

Something to consider, or at least drive one.

Drove by the one on elm st in gso. champagne/silver/whatever that color is. reading the sheet on the windshield, its a 2000, with 245k. timing belt done in april, new michelins on 18s, and aftermarket head unit (nav), At least I think its aftermarket). Had all three rows inside. Had some paint damage on the right rear bumper skin.
2 inch hitch on the back, with 4 wire plug.

They are asking $8800. Tree tree six, sevin zer0 six two tree fo six is the fone number.

I can text pics that I took to anyone that wants em, or will try to upload em later.

how does the interior compare? size wise.

the gx470 a little smaller, id say about 15/16 the size of a 100 series. physical size is about the same as an 80 series. compared to an 80, more first row legroom, more 2nd row legroom, 3rd row is slightly smaller, but can probably fit two sub 10 year olds. not much room behind the 3rd rows for storage at all (my 3rd rows came out the morning after i bought mine). No tools required to remove them. There is a lack of storage space in center console and rear. it has the swingout rear door, no hatch/tailgate.

plus side, its got two cupholders in the front of the center console. two retractable cupholders inside the center console, and two retractable cupholders in the middle row armrest....everyone knows its all about the cupholders.

If youre looking to mod it with sliders, bumpers, etc., there isnt a whole lot out there yet. But, there have been a bunch of products that have come out in the last 6 months, with more on the horizon

When i was looking at 100 series, i drove both the vvti and non vvti engines. I believe 2005 or 2006 was the changever to vvti. go for the vvti motor. you can actually feel it in the seat of the pants. Slee has a great writeup on buying a 100 series. They made about 4x the number of lexus lx470s than they did the toyota lc. they figured out they could make a bunch more money putting the pink pantaloney emblem on them. Exterior, I like the grille/headlights and trim of the LC vs the LX, but the LX has a nicer interior. The Lexus trucks are "usually" better maintained, usually by a lexus dealer. You can look up the VIN of any lexus on their website and it will tell you whats been done within the network.

Locally, stay away from Impex, and JT's in Sanford (I think thats the name). Both have a lot of 100s and 120s pass thru, and they arent always what they seem...

I drove a GX before I bought our LX. The GX is smaller for sure and to me it feels smaller inside than it really is. The GX I drove was really fun to drive. Very peppy. Handled like a car. The one thing I don't like about the GX is that huge swinging rear door. I'd drive one though...and there's plenty of them around. The GX470 is much easier to look at than the newer GX460. The Lexus designer who came up with the GX460 styling had to have been smoking crack. Ugh!

The LX / 100 series is bigger, slower, has a tailgate, poor gas mileage...you know...it's a Land Cruiser.

If we invented a split tailgate system for the GX470, I would be all in. I did not like the rear door. Same goes for the G500.

I have no room to talk, I am cruiserless right now and going crazy. Plan to buy the 04 white truck after we race it this August at uwharrie. Wife already giving me a hard time as it has a snorkel, dt headers, and a very nice exhaust system. ;<)

Hey @roadstr6 , would ya mind moving that knife blade a little more to the left in my back? I think you missed the vitals...:moon:

Ya know, it is considered a 120 series cruiser, and i didnt hear you complainin when it brought your mudship stuff :grinpimp::flipoff2:

really good info here and thanks for taking the time to put that together. I've gone over the 100 series guide from slee and still looking. Main issue is we are replacing the potentially replacing the Yukon XL with our next purchase so size matters...a lot...insert crude comment as needed. lol. Ultimately I think we need to go drive a few before getting too excited with our search.

@erymer if you do go the 100 route definitely go with the with a later model. Having owned both an 01 and an 07 there are the differences in the trannys and motors that like @stevezero said make the later models much more enjoyable. The 07 had a notable difference in power. I will tell you this, coming from a Yukon XL I think you will be disappointed as far room goes. More room than the 80 but with the 3rd rows down it's doable but tight.

My brother in law is selling his Excursion with the 7.3l if you want more space.... ;) sheesh, that thing is a monster.

I don't know anything about the A343, but the 5-speed transmission on the GX and the 2003+ 4Runner is NICE with the 2UZ. It does have a transfer case issue with a seal, but that can be "looked for" and avoided. The A340 always left me feeling vulnerable on the 3rd Gens. Like I have said before, though, I am a notorious trans temp watcher :\

Thinking about trying to get something like this:

1 Owner 2005 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab SR5 TRD Off-Road 4x4 WARRANTY

And sell my 2004 Tacoma.

The above 2005 may have some smoke issues? Looks like smoker burns on the left door?

I would move up to cruise and a rear locker and have a little more room. I would also have a "back up" truck if needed over the years.
