I went up on Tuesday afternoon around having lunch at the golf course on Tiger Road around 2pm. It took me about an hour and a half to get to Wise Mountain Cabin, great views but windy. I spent an hour or so screwing around, going over to the turnoff for Webster Pass. I wanted to camp under some trees and saw the Deer Creek turnoff and trees down in that valley and found a nice spot around 6pm, right at the lower part of that zigzag you can see on the FunTreks trail guide for the Deer Creek trail. The next day I broke camp around 9:30 and meandered down to Montezuma, then went up Saints John, spending a lot of time checking out mining camp ruins. Beautiful trail, some steep and narrow parts up top, but they look worse from a distance. At the top about noon, headed over towards the Middle Fork and caught up to a CJ type of Jeep all decked out with big tires, a RTT, and a snorkel. That was at the real steep and rocky section around a half mile down the trail. They did not want to take the main trail and had tried the uphill bypass which did not work out for them. I had stopped and reconnoitered the situation and they said they would follow me down the center section. I told the the left downhill bypass looked easier so we took that but it was not easier by much. Be careful picking your line. It was narrow in parts which have the Jeep problems due to the snorkel. We spent about an hour going about a mile. I bottomed out once on 33’s. Maybe twice. Anyhow, I got back down into the tree line and found some great campsites about two miles from the end of the trail, right before the beaver ponds. That was around 4pm. All together, around 7-8 hours of trail driving, with the hardest part on the upper half of Middle Fork.I was actually thinking of heading up near Breck next weekend from some much needed camping/wheeling. How many driving hours did this route take?
