I was actually thinking of heading up near Breck next weekend from some much needed camping/wheeling. How many driving hours did this route take?
I went up on Tuesday afternoon around having lunch at the golf course on Tiger Road around 2pm. It took me about an hour and a half to get to Wise Mountain Cabin, great views but windy. I spent an hour or so screwing around, going over to the turnoff for Webster Pass. I wanted to camp under some trees and saw the Deer Creek turnoff and trees down in that valley and found a nice spot around 6pm, right at the lower part of that zigzag you can see on the FunTreks trail guide for the Deer Creek trail. The next day I broke camp around 9:30 and meandered down to Montezuma, then went up Saints John, spending a lot of time checking out mining camp ruins. Beautiful trail, some steep and narrow parts up top, but they look worse from a distance. At the top about noon, headed over towards the Middle Fork and caught up to a CJ type of Jeep all decked out with big tires, a RTT, and a snorkel. That was at the real steep and rocky section around a half mile down the trail. They did not want to take the main trail and had tried the uphill bypass which did not work out for them. I had stopped and reconnoitered the situation and they said they would follow me down the center section. I told the the left downhill bypass looked easier so we took that but it was not easier by much. Be careful picking your line. It was narrow in parts which have the Jeep problems due to the snorkel. We spent about an hour going about a mile. I bottomed out once on 33’s. Maybe twice. Anyhow, I got back down into the tree line and found some great campsites about two miles from the end of the trail, right before the beaver ponds. That was around 4pm. All together, around 7-8 hours of trail driving, with the hardest part on the upper half of Middle Fork.

Something that I always wanted to do on my 100-series, and finally bit the bullet on my LX!

Installed the front, engine, transmission and t-case 1/4” raw aluminum BudBuilt under armor. Incredibly high quality product that was a  install.

Finished up a 6 day fly fishing trip through the San Juan mountains in Colorado. Fished 10 different creeks and rivers and drove over 250 miles off pavement.
Started down in Antonito, went up the Conejos river valley, up and over the pass there to the east fork of the San Juan. Then up through South Fork and Creed to the headwaters of the Rio Grande. Over Stoney Pass (really beautiful), to Silverton, then over Engineer pass (Alpine loop), then up to crested butte via Ohio Pass and Keller Pass. Then I headed home over Cottonwood pass.
I do trips like this every fall to see the colors, fish and take photos. This year it was just my dog and me, slept in the truck and cooked on the tailgate. Good times.

Sweet deal! I'm waffling between steel and aluminum. Nice honda! I've been thinking about picking one up.
I got a smoking deal on the Aluminum ones, which made it an easy decision. But given the choice I’d still opt for these — certainly strong enough for the trail duty my truck sees and saves some weight. Plus the Dissent F/R bumpers are aluminum so I’ve gotta stick with the theme, right? :p

And thank you for the compliment on the S2000! It’s an ‘02 AP1 with EVS Tuning 70mm Single Exhaust, Bilstein PSS coilovers, 17x9 RPF1 with 255/45 Toyo R888 tires. Need to dial in the rest of the suspension for the squared wheel setup, but this thing is an absolute joy to own and drive. If you’re even thinking about buying one, don’t think twice. May not be the fastest, or most technically advanced but I don’t think there’s many cars out there that deliver the pure driving experience that this does.

Going to need some more photos! Love me some SK2s!

I think we have a thread here somewhere for "whats your other cars".

Was looking for the “other cars” thread but couldn’t find it. So I’ll bury one S2K pic with some recent LX570 pics from my latest trip up in the mountains for the Toyo Tires Trailpass event

Perfectly balanced! Love your build. What spec wheels on the LX in terms of offset?
Thank you! Wheel & tire specs are:
  • Black Rhino Rapid / 17x8.5 et10
  • Toyo Open Country R/T Trail / 285/75r17
I have grown to like the slight poke of the wheel, but I wouldn’t might a slightly higher offset to bring the wheel/tire in with the fender.

Or invest the cost and labor into 37s. At least that's been my strategy to avoid contact sports.

Until that time when chasing bigger rocks again and then it's 40s or skids. :)

Don’t tempt me with a good time! Seriously though, your build is one I have book marked as I get in to the more detailed bits for my truck.

That said, I’d invest in AHC long travel as the next unlock for the LX!

Stance

Hauled 600lbs of sand then put it in L to unload. This is the result haha

Any coords for a good camp spot? How's the fishing on any of the forks of Swan River? I assume a stock Bronco on 35s will do ok on all the trails.
