Well… we had a mobile detailer come to the house the Thursday before Labor Day to clean a few vehicles. About 20 minutes after I paid the guy, my wife walked into my office and casually informed me that he had attempted to jump-start the LX with jumper cables, there were sparks everywhere, and apparently he managed to burn himself in the process.

Not exactly the complimentary service I was expecting.

I went outside and immediately found the LX in limp mode, the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree, and the electronic brakes had apparently decided they were no longer interested in participating.

Fast forward three weeks now, and our family adventure rig/camper hauler is still sitting at the Lexus dealer while they continue to throw parts at it.

As a result, we’ve basically been benched for most of the summer. Hopefully she’ll be home next week and we can get back to using it for what it was built for.

Naturally, as my patience wore thinner and the dealers sense of urgency disappeared, I did what any rational 200 series lover would do…

I started shopping for another 200.

Last weekend I stumbled across this one-owner Nebula Pearl Gray/black interior LX with 36k miles, spotless Carfax, immaculate history.

So… we accidentally bought it.

The plan now is to keep both. The 2011 can continue its progression toward becoming the trail toy it always wanted to be, while this one gets the cushy life. It’ll probably get a supercharger, maybe some 33s, and otherwise spend its days pretending it’s far too bougie to see dirt.

Sad for your awesome rig to be down for so long but happy you get to play with another LX👌🏼

…and because this is that thread…

Go straight to 295s. It makes the grill so much more proportional

And not much of a fitment penalty if you are already considering a 33.

Those 35's look pretty at home on the stock 20's

Enjoying that abominable snow rig sightings are a regular thing around here again.

My offering for the thread gods.

All stock here still, but I recently picked up this high mileage 2008 (283k miles) for cheap ($10.5k) as I've been dreaming of a 200 series for a while now and had to have it at this price, plus we recently added to our family and need/wanted a 3rd row. This one is somewhat rough cosmetically, mainly the clear coat-less hood, and what appears to be some backyard paint work done on a few panels. Super clean interior though, some good work done at the dealer in the last 30k miles, and drives like a dream. Planning on tundra 18's and 295's most likely.

Great family rig. The 200 platform is just about as good as it gets. Family of 6 here and we love the 200. It might be the one thing I own that is not for sale. Unless someone gets out of hand on a price.

Those hay balers can be nasty machines.

I grew up in a farm equipment business. I hope I never have to work on another hay baler in my life.

You want to talk about miserable is laying under one of those things while it’s 100* outside in the hayfield replacing a chain or bearing it decided to randomly eat. Not to mention the ole sickle bar mowers

We are really enjoying it so far. It's a very comfortable vehicle, and longer drives in it feel much shorter than in my Tundra or 4runner. We'll see if we end up in a Sequoia some day, but until we have to have the space I think this LX will serve us very well.

Lost a taillight last night (still better than the two I lost last time I ran this trail in my 100). Tree just jumped out and attacked. I’ll return later this year and try to survive without damage…

(anyone have an old passenger side taillight they’d like to get rid of for cheap? I kinda prefer the older 2008 with chrome around it to the newer one, but I see most prefer the newer style)

Please keep me updated on the deflated and ratchet strap method. I know some GX guys did it with succes so hopefully it works for you. Ide like to squeeze put a tiny more than 34.5 on the spare!
It worked

Clearing the panhard bar by a few red c—t hairs.

Let it deflate and ratcheted it down before putting the Schrader valve back in.

Also removed this little guy

Went ahead and used my razor knife to trim the front mud flaps a little more while I was messing with it

Zero rubbing now when it’s fully articulated, lock to lock 😎

IMG_2801.webp

The passenger tire was about 10” off the ground so the front driver side was fully compressed.

IMG_2802.webp

Switched to stuffing the passenger front, no rub lock to lock.

Not bad for a mostly stock vehicle!

oh shiiiii.. ITS POSSIBLE!

I wonder what happens if you pull a vacuum on the tire instead haha would it get smaller?

Good work! This might make me go 35s instead of 34.5

Yes you can see people pull vacuum on tires to get the air out and replace it with nitrogen and the tires collapse. I would not want to keep them like that for long though lol

It is indeed!

I would not recommend pulling vacuum on a tire. It may debead and allow dirt/debris to get between the wheel and tire and leak when you use it.

Also check pricing while you're comparing them. A standard 35" tire may be cheaper than the 34.5

So I tried looking for skinny 35s AT but my hits are low for 18" wheels. A part of me regrets not going 17 lol

What about 285-75r18? There are a bunch of options for that tire, but only in E load.
