Do you have room to store it if you take it apart?[/QUOTE]
I remove it every year after the April rains die down and put it back on after Halloween. I just hate hard tops. I like soft tops. If it is nice out I can just roll up the sides or take the soft top down. I've had soft top Jeeps since I was 16 years old. So easy to be topless on a nice January day. This is my first 40 and I'm not digging' the hard top at all.

I hear you... I've been "restoring" my hard top for the last 20 years and it's never been back on since I took it off in August 1997.

    1978 FJ40 for sale.
I was contacted via the club's email regarding assistance with the sale of this '78 FJ40. I invited the owner & 40 to attend the next club meeting, which they are planning to do. Please PM me for contact info. More photos soon. Here are the details:

    upload_2018-3-27_14-12-38.png

    And to answer the basics:
-it's in good condition (we drive it pretty regularly, or at least we did, but we now have two very little boys so can't take them in it).
-181,466 miles on the frame (not sure on the engine)
-there's some rust in the usual places, but she spent most of her life in California so it's not bad. We had the underbody coated in 2013 because we spent a year in Boston and wanted to protect her from the road salt there.
    -asking price $18,900

    History:
Bought in California 2011 as a surprise for me while I was on a deployment from my wife Marina. She was training a bunch of Marines to go to Afghanistan out in 29 Palms, and saw it. Talked a Marine Officer into selling. Same situation as me – loved it but family situation and deployments were stacking up…his wife made him trade it in for a mini-van, and thus enabled the only legitimate reason by which a Marine Infantry Officer is allowed to cry…
Mainly beach driving in OBX and daily driver to work at the Naval Base once or twice a week.
Been a steady restoration and upgrades. Have put about 5K miles on it. Treated repairs and replacement as steady state. Focus was on mechanical systems first, body later.

    Features
350 Smallblock, 181,466 K on the frame, don’t know on the engine (late 70’s). Good engine. My Mech’s have said it still in great shape.
California and Arizona for most of its life.
Underbody good shape – had it petroleum coated for the one year in 2013 while doing a fellowship in Boston. That’s the only time I’m aware of it’s been in snow/road salt.
Passes Inspection – not antique registration.

    Work Performed
    Fuel Lines replaced
    Brake Lines replaced
    New distributor, cap and rotor
    New Spark Plugs and wires
    New Headliner
    Front Drums rebuilt
    Rear disk brakes overhauled
    New Heater Control Valve
    New Valve Cover Gaskets
    New Ring Gear
    New slave cylinder
    New battery
New Centerforge clutch, recent – transition for a 350
Edelbrock 1406 Carb and adapter plate – replaced original quadrajet
    New Starter
New PCV Valve (78 Camaro/350 ci)
    New front brake hoses
New Gabriel guardian shock absorbers (rear)
    New Classic shock absorbers (front)
    New rear brake hoses
    New alternator belt
    New steering center arm kit
    Replaced fuel hoses
    Rebuilt idler arm assembly
    New Radiator 2009
Tires – Mickey Thompson Baja MTZ

    Work to be done
Was saving body work for last
Rear quarterpanel rust – this is the common spot for the FJ’s.
    Grill needs blast and paint
Overall, the Virginia humidity and general oxidation is setting in – time for a paint job and probably thirty to fifty hours of body work
    Front door window mechanism stripped
    Hinge on front door snapped
    Starboard defrost no air flow
Was planning to replace or repair the rear gas tank when changing out the rear quarterpanel. I recently had a water intrusion in the aft tank, but that may have been from some overly optimistic water driving I was doing during some flooding in Norfolk last year – can’t find a leak now.

Dang, I wasn't in the market for a pickup but I might have to get in. How's the interior? Cloth or leather?

Interior is cloth. SR5 trim level. No rips or stains. But in need of cleaning.

Pre facelift 2nd Gen Tundras were pretty simple in terms of design. No fancy electronics. Power seat and an internal CD changer were about all that came with SR5.

It's a middle level truck. Mid grade (SR5), mid cab (Double), mid bed (6.5). The 5.7 is a thirsty but stout beast.

Moving to proper E range truck tires made a huge difference in my opinion over the long term. The OE Ragged Tails (BFG) were an embarrassment to the platform. Never have I experienced a s***tier tire.

For Sale - 96 LX450 w/Factory lockers in LI NY

The guy sent me pictures. It is black. Not sure how much rust it has. I'm interested, but have family visiting the next two weekends. $1k for a running black locked 96 LX450 is a deal. I'm afraid because of my family visit I will miss out on this deal. Someone should jump on this.
