A while back there were some on ebay that were welded short sections of stainless steel in that $150 price range

Mark, is there a benefit, or fitment specific diff between the 2 headers pictured ? are either of these the header that has been in build up for the past few years and has a thread on here ? Like is the downward pointed header for a specific year range ?

It's a matter of quality John. I didn't fully understand the the amount of fatigue that goes into the radius bends until I befriended @lcwizard and he explained some of the specifics of the mandrel bending that went into producing his FJ40 brushguards.

It's easy enough to understand in a general sense that tubing will get stretched in the process of being bent. But it's more than just wall thickness and quality of steel.

It's been 30 years, but as I recall Dave described the mandrel as a flexible spine inserted in the tubing, with exacting diameters and distance between individual joints, that minimizes the kind of distortion that causes metal fatigue.

The box was dropped off at my doorstep just now. Thanks again Mark. Looks great and was packaged nicely.
Next steps, replace leaking freeze plug. Then wait for some headers before I can reassemble.

Emission equipment removed. Carburetor rebuilt, thanks @65swb45 . Installed a different set of headers that arent blown out (minus exhaust leak) thanks @LCMoneyPit.

I made a tap out of an old head bolt as suggested and was able to clean out and chase threads to get the second headbolt to seat properly. After blasting it with the air compressor, the debris left on the ceiling was evidence of all the junk that was in the hole.

The flange of the new header came up a bit short so I'll need to get that taken care of at a local muffler shop if I can't find a pipe stretcher myself

While I was researching hose pipe config, I decided to replace wire harness grommets. Why? Because there's so much daylight shining through. I figured these would howl with wind when going down the highway.

And they're a little crusty.

Got 2 from Mr T.

I ordered some grommets today, not just for this 1 hole but a few others which led me down a rabbit hole looking at all the voids to plug
Can anyone tell or show me what went here?
@bdawg23 does your '74 have this 2" void on the transmission tunnel?

If you dont have a heater, Specter sells a grommet plug part #187-10NH to block off these two holes.

That’s not a factory hole.

Thanks guys. That's a bummer. I want to plug it off, maybe I can find a 2" grommet plug or something. I would do more harm if I tried to do any metal work myself.
