Has anyone here installed this battery? It's shorter than the factory 27f but a spacer can be purchased for less than $5. I'm guessing the spacer will eliminate extending any cables and maxing out the factory tie down. CCA are well above factory specs at 850 so no worries there. Just concerned about ordering online and having fitment issues.

I manage to install with out the spacer. If you can find the spacer, then use it. I made it all work with out extending cables and have no tie down issues

Thanks for the reply. I may be holding off on the battery. Using a harbor freight centech battery tester it showed the battery is putting out around 13v and under load it tested around 900 amps. I'm not sure I trust those results so im taking it to autozone to be tested tomorrow.

Some history on the battery....Alt went out last year and i slow charged the battery every day for about 5 days until the work week was over and had the alt rebuilt. I'm sure that was extremely hard on the battery but its been working fine for over a year since.

My wife sat in the 470 last night to talk to her parents just to get some peace and quiet from the kids. She said she didnt have any lights on and the keys were out of the ignition. Fast fwd to this morning and the truck was only clicking but fired up shortly after i connected jumper cables up. I was thinking starter as another possibility.

If it started with a jump, the starter's not likely to be the culprit.

^^ this. Sounds like that battery is on its last leg.

Battery tested at 665 CCA and is rated at 700. Autozone said no battery needed but shouldnt it be at 700 CCAs or better? I mean that should have been testing at peak performance since I'd been driving around for 30 plus minutes and the alt had plenty of time to charge the battery right?

Check the battery cables, as well. One or both can have a bad connection somewhere or excessive corrosion inside the jacket. You could have a bad ground cable or a bad connection where it bolts to the chassis. Sometimes the hot cable can have issues, but not as common as the ground cables due to the way they are sealed off from everything, unlike the ground cables on most vehicles.

Looks like I am going to go with this Odysse battery but curious about the spacer. I don't see why a spacer would be needed it doesn't seem too short but if one can be had for $5-$10 I am interested. But all I could find was post adapters and I would not want to go that route.

Just test fitted my Odysse in the Trail-Gear battery box 301347-KIT for Die Hard Batteries and it is a fit!

I will be posting install photos once I get the battery box back from powder coat.

Update on TG battery install. Planned to install it on Sunday but came across an issue.

Ordered 5/16" NutCerts to attach to the factory metal tray but realized the bolt heads were going to be too big. So then I figured I would just go with smaller 1/4" bolts and I would be able to get to the back side with a standard bolt on most of them and it would be strong enough.
Unfortunately the bolt heads are still a little too high and the top of the cage would not bolt down.

I am also a little worried about the strength of the bottom of the battery sitting on these bolts and causing a puncture. I have not been able to find one single install photo online showing how people bolt these cages down so I am just trying to figure this out and post something up for others to reference.

I am leaning towards getting some rounded top SS bolts with Allen heads that will be less likely to puncture the bottom of the battery. And I have already slotted the two holes in the top cover for the bolts to line up and lock it down. So it's a tight fit but should all work out.

Bolts stick up too high and worried about puncturing bottom of the battery.

The bottom of the Odyssey battery is relatively flat not much grooves.

With the battery sitting on the bolts the top bracket sits too high and the bolts won't screw in.

To remedy this I made the slot in the top bracket lower so the screw would go in. Did this with a dremel then sprayed with a quick coat of paint. This is a photo before enlarging the slot.

Any issues with the Odyssey battery so far? Thinking of picking one up along with the Ruff Stuff box.

Also, are you running a stock (or equivalent) alternator?

I run Odyssey batteries and they are great! I run a 290A alternator in my GX with two of them.

@Bluetribal I would be tempted to taper drill those holes and use a flat head taper screw to mount to protect that battery.

Glad to hear you like them Dan. I’ll only be doing one Odyssey (for now), and I’m having a hard time justifying the cost of those HO alternators. Still at stock amp draw but plenty of planned upgrades in the future.

Is there a middle ground for alternators? Maybe ~200A and <$300?

There are custom wound alts all over for amperage. I do know the stock truck uses around 90A to run, so 130 is way too little, especially when you add the toys.

Battery has been great, still running stock alternator. But I don’t have much electrical goodies yet. Just a Ham radio that I actually forgot to turn off a couple of times on my Moab trip and the truck fired right up no problem. Only once I left it on over night the other times were for a couple of hours.

Yeah I was tempted to do so but it’s so thin the metal that I didn’t think it would help much even with tapered bolt heads with Philips screw pattern.
I ended up adding some thick felt furniture pads so that not all of the pressure of the battery is on the bolt heads. I will be pulling it out soon to start my electrical wiring and installing the re-designed Power Tray engine shelf. So I will take a peak to see how the bottom of the battery is looking.
