I just got back from a trip to Hatteras,NC.....awesome by the way!!....on the way down there my power steering tensioner pulley bearing started screaming and grenaded. Thinking quick i took off the belt so i could continue. When i kept driving the Charge,Brake and A.T. oil temp lights all illuminated......i was a little worried but pushed thru to Napa in Buxton,NC....tested the alternator and it was fine....theyre computers say the P.S. and A/C pulleys are identical.....theyre not....after the second one they ordered i gave up.
i could have drove to Elizabeth City and ordered one at Toyota for $160 and waited 2 days but i said screw it and just drove it manual.
I never thought finding the right part for my 85 4runner was gonna be that tough
Anyways i made it back heres the only pics i got

Correct, on the 85 trucks the bearing can be pressed out of the cast pulley. This is not the case on later models, and the replacement stamped pulley from Toyota. If you need a pulley let me know PM. I should have several, probably with a new bearing already pressed in.

I'm sure somewhere out in the Internets is the part number for the bearing you want, I may have one in a box in my trail parts box. Or pop out the old bearing, take it down to NAPA, they can match it. Like pappy, I have several of those pulleys, let me know if you really need one.

6204-2RS (KOYO)
6204-LLU (NTN, OEM)

Regardless, you want a double sealed 6204. Just about any parts store carries them.

well the only parts left are the inner and outer race.....and im trying to figure out how to press out the inner race since its diameter is bigger than the hole in the cast pulley........

Also now that im home i pulled out my spare from my 84 parts truck.......the bearing didnt seem too bad but its from a 23 year old 160k truck......i put it on for now so i can move the truck around and such but i think i will put a new bearing in it before i venture too far from home again

thanx for the help and that part number

by the way isnt the belt system awesome on 22re trucks?

friends that are used to serp belt systems (Jeep Cherokee) were surprised how you can remove the belt and still have the water pump, alternator, and A/C still working

I had to tow my friends Cherokee once a few years back because his idler pulley went out and he lost everything

My PS idler failed catastrophically in Baja a few years ago. I arm-stronged the truck until I found a boneyard in Guerrero Negro. I pulled one off a late model 22re, and the folks in the yard packed it with grease for good measure. I drove home with it. Not only do I now carry a spare, I hoard them when found at the U-Pull.

I used a dremmel with a small cut off wheel to cut the outer race till it would pop out... Yes this cut into the pulley some, but not enough to make me worry. Good luck!

My 83 is held in with a snap ring. Very easy to change out. I took the bearing to my local bearing supply and got a new one there.

When the bearing grenades, if you have some of the balls, 3 or more, it is easy to get it out. Reassemble the bearing: Stand the pulley/bearing upright, put the balls in the groove in the outer race (some grease helps hold them in place), place the inner race where it would normally ride on the balls, holding the inner race in place tip the pulley flat and move/distribute the balls evenly around the bearing, now drive the bearing out.
