Can anyone tell what size is the bolt that holds the crank bearing caps down? I know it is a 2.0 pitch, but could not tell the exact size. Need to know so I can order thread inserts and studs.

Pull one off and measure it. You already have the "hard to measure without the proper tool" spec. :D

All you need now is length and diameter. Just measure with a caliper and multiply by 25.4 for mm's.

Need the specs on the built in bolt that holds the transfer case shift lever in place on a 4 speed.

I have it measured at 12mm X 1.25, but when I try a 12mm x 1.25 nut on it, it wont go...

Help me please!

good source for bolt info

I don't know if anyone has seen this website [ Bolt Depot - Fastener Information - Terminology, Measurement, Materials and more ] , but it is a great source for measuring and identifying bolts that you take off. The reference material even prints out to scale.

So far on my project I have only had to drill out about half of the bolts that I have taken off. Somebody previously just painted over all of them. You have to just appreciate auto painters that take pride in their work.

Coolerman, I would love a copy of that spreadsheet as well. My e-mail is zekerd2002@yahoo.com or you could post in tech section.

Yep I have the printed out sheets in my nut and bolt folder. ;)

However my best tools are a 150 mm metric ruler, a metric thread gauge and a set of calipers. I also use a set of taps and dies to verify the really small stuff.

Since I have gotten so many requests for the spread sheet recently, I decided to go ahead and host it.

Click HERE for the latest version. I spent a bit of time last night updating it and cleaning it up. So if you want the latest one better download it!

I'm working on the version that sorts by size, it should be ready in a day or so.

Thanks for the host. How do you want it sorted?

The Eagle crash landed. I about s*** a brick today. I went to drop off my bolts to my bolt guy and see the new JIS stuff he got in. He got JIS bolts alright, but no indentions on the heads like factory Toyota. I could not believe it. He had samples of what I wanted (OEM bolts) and still screwed up. He said he was really sorry, bla bla, and said he will find what I need. They do exist, and he is intent on finding them. They will need to come from one of his European bolt suppliers. He said he thought he knew all there was to know about bolts before I called him looking for JIS stuff. I felt bad bc he had a pile of the wrong bolts he ordered for me, but he said no problem, his mistake. He had all my sizes from M6-M12 including nuts and washers. All friggen wrong, I need bolts, can't do crap without them. :frown: He knows the pay off is big bc of all the Cruiser nerds looking for this stuff, he is just amazed that it is this hard for him to find.

Would he want to sell the 'wrong' ones he got for you after they are plated? A lot of us would not care they are not indented as long as they are JIS. This would allow him to not have to eat those and spur him on to find the correct ones.
I, for one, would buy theses from him. :D

I am ahead of you. I told him I wanted to go ahead an get my original stuff plated as well as the wrong stuff. That way I could at least get working on my project and I figured someone on mud would not care so I could sell them later. I will let you know. And yes we can get more of the JIS like this if we need to. I just know the dam original styles are out there and it pisses me off not being able to find them. It is a challenge now.

Thanks for posting the spread sheet. You don't know how much time it will save me instead of running to Home Depot or True Value sticking bolts into their sizing boards. Now I can open a drawer take what I need and leave. Oh the other thing is, I sure will miss hearing "why did it take you so long at the hardware store" from the better half! :censor:

I will let you know when I get them back hopefully next week. But I think they do not do small batches bc the guy that is having mine done said they are an industrial plater and they could loose stuff. I did not send anything that was not replaceable. But there is a place in Mayesville, GA. Check with blueticker here on Mud.
