Not mine, but supposed 2016 Land Cruiser Double Cab Pickup for sale...

The only thing I would change about this is add that the "random guy" that posted up pics of the truck is the same guy posting ads on Mud, CL, and eBay under the name PappBrothersAutomotive. Go search for posts in this thread by @InTheKnow . Posts #614, #619, and #632 for those who are too lazy. I wonder how many Mud accounts the Papps hold...

Not enough...

These guys, or someone claiming to be them, are posting ebay and craigslist ads for trucks they don't own in Japan. Have they given up on the 79 series scam? They never updated their website after SEMA, it still reads "Available October 2017" and "12D 18H 45MN 36S Before Sales Begin at SEMA, Las Vegas". No one ever posted on their forum. So weird.

So does this mean I lost my secret cash deposit personally delivered in a Neiman Marcus bag to be first in line to recieve my dream truck:crybaby::moon:

.......my deposit was a paper bag stuffed full of Iraqi Dinar's

I saw this ad and assumed it was a joke based on so many hilarious details.

1989 Toyota Land Cruiser HJ61 | eBay

But maybe this is actually the Papp brothers trying to sell cars?

pappbrothersautomotive | eBay

I think it has to be a joke at their expense.

Where did the for sale thread just go that was here on Mud??

All I did was mention the poster was either "Michael" or "John" and referenced this thread and POOF, it's gone!!! Did a mod delete it or the poster?

I think it got moderated or maybe the OP deleted it.

So the buyer is paying approx $20k for shipping and brokerage fees? And the seller is never out of pocket any money. Hell of a deal!

BTW, good luck on getting a vehicle shipped from Japan to the US and through customs in 30-40 days. Especially a Land Cruiser or Land Rover. My 70 Series sat in customs while they checked it over with a magnifying glass for 45 days!

I am calling bull**** on this. Reason why, you got 2-4 free days and then it is $250-500 a day for storage for a 40ft container in the port.

Oh ya and FYI, customs doesn't charge anything for x-ray or secondary inspections. It is the shipper that charges you for it. Customs is free of charge, Hamburg hit me with nearly $2,000 for customs to x-ray and do the secondary inspection and $865 to store my container in the customs warehouse! Avoid Hamburg at all costs!!

Cheers

I have a buddy that has a “hotel” there... haven’t been.

:hmm:

I have been, four times for up to six weeks. Awesome country!

Can you blame them for bringing in junk Cruisers and trying to sell them for $50k!? Soon as people started paying lots of money for Land Cruisers and the word got out via the internet it was going to happen no matter what. They see a bunch of "rich" gringoes paying lots of cash for old work trucks. Ya!

And thanks to this perceived rich gringo wants a Cruiser thing, prices have risen worldwide. Hard to even find a good Cruiser at a good price anymore in countries like Colombia. When I first went down there in 2004 to hunt for trucks, you could buy FJ43's all day long for $2-10k. Not the case anymore. Costa Rica is another good example. Pile of rust, bondo and s*** repairs down there cost ya $10k minimum. And why is it BAT seems to like those CR trucks so much!? They didn't want to list my solid HJ47 unless it was some rediculous low price all the while they are listing bondo filled s*** show trucks on there that don't have factory beds. I just don't get that, I think BAT is going to s*** fast.

Cheers

Japan has been riding this wave also, 70 series and diesel 80 series in Japan have been steadily climbing in price the last 5 years.

I can only go by my one experience. It sat at customs forever. This is shortly after a bunch of Land Rovers were busted with old VINs on newer rigs. My 88 was low mileage and super clean so it raised red flags. I don’t believe that it was sitting in the shipping container while it was at customs. I could be mistaken. It came in with 14 Monteros and they weren’t held up as long as my Land Cruiser.

Honestly I think it has to do with the shipper. I was charged $865 for being 4-days past my free days which was all because of a secondary inspection by customs. Container was at the customs warehouse so not even in the port. I raised hell and said it was BS but could do nothing and would have incurred more storage fees the next day if I didn't pay the $865.

Anyways, avoid Hamburg at all costs!

Cheers

Yeah you get screwed if they decide they want to screw you. The shipping industry is not a customer friendly business. Storage time is the killer and customs may or may not be in a hurry to get an inspection done. Unknown or first time shippers will commonly have this problem with containers. This happened to me on my first couple. Years later after over 80 containers and an established import history, boxes get to my door 21-24 days after they leave port in Japan. Typically bout 2 weeks on the water, about a week in the rail system and then one day for truck transport to my door for unloading. It's still a little stressful every time, I know about when they're coming and can watch their progress as they move through the system, but when the trucking company calls and says "we're bringing 2 containers tomorrow or the next day, you choose", ya gotta drop what you're doing and be ready. All to avoid any storage or other costs.

Such a horrible problem to have!! “Hey, I got two shipping containers of Land Cruisers I’m bringing to you. You want them tomorrow or the next day?!”

Everyone on Mud is playing the tiny violin for ya!

Lol, and the trucks are usually full of rare parts too, it's a real burden haha.
