Wow MadMace. Thanks!

Of course. They currently have my 1974 FJ40 FST in their shop, getting it all dialed in. The wife, Kim, answers the phones. Rick does all the mechanic work. Super nice. I’ve known them for a couple of years so PM me if I can help.

Will do. Doesn't seem like there's going to be a consensus good or bad. I'll keep reading the posts and see where they lead.

Wooden floorboards? 3//4 aqulu aluminum tub.

I should have said "wooden" as in they look like a 1/4" of luan screwed over the floor pans.

To me the driver's floor looks to be part of the aluminum 3/4 replacement tub--I personally would want to check much closer.
The windshield hood hooks from a distance look like the replacement Stainless versions from Specter that have been painted. I would imagine they are Jeep-related, but to many folks, Stainless is an upgrade from rust-bleeding originals.

Whenever you have a replacement partial tub, whether steel or aluminum, how well it has been reunited with the original firewall/bulkhead into an integrated body determines the overall quality of the resulting vehicle. An up-close examination of that area is probably indicative of just how well the rest of the project has been done. There are some master fabricators who do top-quality work, and then there are the pretenders. Nothing beats a detailed personal eyes-on inspection of a vehicle you intend to buy.

Looks like a nice cruiser, but does have some questionable things that need to be looked at. Steel has been patched in and as stated above it's important to see how well they have been patched together. It does look like a lot of work has been done so you would just need to make sure it was done well.

Anyone think this could be a south american cruiser given the absent heater?

To me, it looks like the 2F is angled towards the rear pinion, and the split-case add-on e-brake is excessively low on clearance. I'm no expert, but from what I gather, it is hard to fit a 2F and 5-speed in a 40. The rear driveshaft looks really short. But that is all from the photos. The original frame middle crossmember has been removed. You might not have the motor mounts on the sides of the bellhousing.

Still, this is a nice 40.

I'd look into the details of the Weber carb, evidence of leaks, etc. I'd check for a VIN # on the frame. See if it is the weatherstrip or door fitment that is causing that or whatever. Details. On the radiator, or coolant reservoir, overflow tube dangling on the side of the frame rail.
