Noisy Front Suspension -- BP51 --thinking about selling

I do still like them, just came back from a Big bend trip and it was awesome as the temps were mild, lately here it's freezing so it now feels like the whole front end is loose on small pavement changes, very disturbing.

I'm wondering if other truck platforms are having issues with the BP51 or is this a 200 specific issue.

They can torture test components on a rack/device. I'm sure they also road test but the point is there are a variety of methods.

I do wonder the summer climate in Australia (when this started coming to a head) might have been a factor that could have erroneously convinced them it was fixed in earlier tests.

Have any of you watched to frozen-motor-oil test someone posted here a while back? It was pretty interesting to see the wide range of effects on various oils. Seems like it makes sense for this question too.

Unless they have a cold room where they can test the shocks ,, then you are right. It is summer there and we getting another ride in an expensive Australian barge. I don't get it. What is the truth ?? They told my shop, Overland, that the shocks are in a plane to be tested in North America and other guys are been told that , they are testing them in Australia.
We just got over 2' of snow in NE and my $75 000 machine equipped with highly developed ARB shocks it seats nice in the driveway because i can't use the FCK truck. Thanks Toyota my Tundra never let me down. I am trying to be understanding but this is not anymore about the shocks or money anymore. I need the truck and i am afraid to use it. God knows what else I am damaging. Will I damage the KDSS ??, will I damage something else ??
In the mean time they are giving people excuses. If they really care ?? they should have a guy from ARB in these forums and calm things down with something more plausible
I am going to get in the other forums, Tundrasolution, Tacomaworld and make some wave. is the only way. I think.

My understanding is that it will not damage your truck.
It's just annoying sounds.
The shock isn't failing due to the clink.
It's just making a lot of racket.

I hope you are right Magnuson. I see you are more patient and understanding. I respect that.

If my TJM T13 that's on a slow boat arrives...and I can't install it because replacements aren't here yet........my patience may be tested.

It's kind of interesting, the interwebs reveals very few issue/clunk complaints for the BP-51s except for 200 series owners here on Mud haha... one thing I did find which I found interesting was that users were reporting limited down travel compared to Bilstein/Fox/King equivalents. Anyone measure compressed and extended lengths by chance? Curious how they compare to other "OEM replacement" options.

This is what I got from ARB in February.

"My suspension engineer and his team are working very hard on trying to figure out this issue out and provide our customers with a solution. I wish I had something for you at this point but as of right now they are still working on this with no update yet. I will keep you informed when I have more for you. As for the shock itself, they is nothing defective or wrong with the shock and it is going to perform the same as it would if there was no noise. So there is no danger or defect that needs to be of concern in regards to using them on you vehicle."

So in the mean time I use my LC normally as recommended.

^^This.

It is apparently noisy, but not damaging to anything except our ears and our pride.

On the other hand...the current update also addresses oil leaks with a different seal...and the rear changes the rock guard entirely, as the other one kept working its way loose. They've fixed those issues already.

This is absurd.

If I had bought these shocks, I'd be demanding my money back from the vendor. I mean sheesh; at the price you are paying, you should be getting top shelf performance.

I certainly would not be installing these until the issues get worked out

Dissect one snd see what is giving out internally

I don't think anything is giving out. Thinking the oil is thickening in cold, and not flowing properly after compression...?

How cold is it in San Diego

Curious then, if you run these hard (get the oil heated up), but in cold weather if you still hear the clunk still.

It's not. But I did experience the clunk when we drove to a pile o snow with recent snowstorms in the mountains...and we may move to Colorado, so it matters long term. It would also suck on solo trips like these:

I was wondering where you may have experienced cold weather being located where you are. Thats all

Legit Q. We drove to sub-freezing snowy area as one of my first true "outings" since my accident.
