$1900 and then put on insurance, deductible only.

Well, here’s another reason NOT to use Safelite

No safelite

I should have listened. I think also that this thread may not show that I had to get the, to replace the roof tail trim they screwed up.

Make sure to use OEM glass only - my opinion

As it always goes, YMMV.

I used safelite for my prior windshield in 2020. It has been fine in general but I have had this issue although I can't say for sure it is related to glass replacement or not:

I've added sealing, etc. It still isn't 100% fixed although it is better after some of those recommended fixes. I think it is time to replace the cowl itself.

And...I just had a big chip and then a crack developed - so off to insurance. $500 deductible on my USAA policy here in CO with a push to have safelite do it (they got $250). The tech said that the old trim had been glued down (ie, clips were broken from the prior install) so it took longer to get the new glass in. No issues so far but I'll keep an eye on it.

In contrast, we also just had a cracked OE windshield on a 2021 Benz that needed to be replaced. Going through insurance to try to fix/replace and Safelite wanted us to sign a waiver about not doing calibrations, etc. NOT. In this case, I rescheduled through the Mercedes dealer for OE glass, calibration, etc. The bill was $2700 which we paid, then submitted a claim. $500 deductible later, I had a check for $2300 back.

Next time I may have the dealer handle my windshield. I'm ok with the safelite I have but am unhappy with the install from 2020. Contemplating going back to safelite to demand they secure the trim properly (if it wasn't already done).

Anyone in Washington state have a good source for OEM windshield? My local(Wenatchee) Toyota dealer is supposedly saying they can't get them. They also don't do windshield repairs there.

It's actually for a 2008 LX. I assumed the were all the same.
Different color for the tinted section at the top if I remember correctly. And it’s possible lexus does more sound deadening magic but I’m not at all sure about that.

Has anyone had a windshield replaced through State Farm and been able to use OEM glass? I have a nice crack right in front of the drivers side that has 2 blinding spots with the sun in the wrong position. I am sure getting OEM glass here will be a fun time either way.

I agree, the factory glass is better in most every way. I am glad that I get it the same as I would third party glass for only my $100 deductible.
I must say, I'm impressed by the resilience of the 200's glass. Recently, while driving on the freeway, a golf ball-sized chunk of concrete struck it, producing a deafening noise. Even though I saw it bouncing down the roadway prior to the hit we had no option but to take the it since there were no escape routes. Surprisingly, the glass didn't crack. However, it did cause some roughening of the glass surface, which I'll share a picture of later. I just hope it doesn't lead to a crack, especially considering how difficult it is to find original equipment glass.

We have more than a few "chips" as they call them. Glass repair shops wont fix those, they usually don't spread.

You got VERY lucky. I'm on my third windshield from sh*t like this on the interstate. OEM replacements x 2. My insurance company had a stooge send me a letter that was a very obvious shot across the bow given frequency of claims over that 6 months. Thankfully my agent is a good guy and when I questioned our long term relationship, he made things right.

Is it not normal for you guys to have glass coverage (no deductible) on your vehicles?

I may have a different perspective since I've spent most of my time in AZ but it's a no brainer over there. Not terribly expensive to add to a policy. Get a chip, can get it filled for free. If a replacement is necessary, get a new windshield and policy doesn't go up...

Normal or not, I don't know but I have it. Insurance doesn't like paying out on policies with any frequency, or at all if possible IMO.

In the past, we received complimentary replacements with USAA while in California. However, that was quite some time ago. For a period, we switched over to Farmers and they offered free repairs and a replacement cost of $100 plus tax. We have since returned to USAA, where repairs are still free, but replacements are considered a comprehensive claim, and we have set our deductible at $100. We have different vehicles registered in California and Colorado, but thankfully, we haven't needed to file a claim for the latter as they are driven much less.

It seems that the arrangements between the state departments of insurance and insurance companies determine the extent of coverage. Farmers had a coverage option where you could opt for Original Equipment parts, but USAA did not offer that in either state from what I recall. This makes me wonder about how I would handle a windshield claim - perhaps I would order the parts and pay for them out of pocket before filing for reimbursement.

I have Progressive and actually just added full glass coverage to my policy today since it didn't automatically transfer when I moved from AZ -> TX.

For 5 months of coverage it was an additional $68 on my policy. This is for full glass coverage, no deductible charge if windshield needs to be replaced. In AZ, I've gotten 2 new windshields with this coverage/provider over ~5 years and multiple chips filled.

I cannot comprehend paying $500+ out of pocket for something that could happen multiple times a year. I also am skeptical that the issues arising from a replacement windshield is due to the glass not being OEM. I would guess it's more of the installer as there's much more room for error there than a quality control issue...

I did on my 13 lx. The glass shop foreman fought with linksys (claims glass administrators for State Farm). Linksys owns safelite. Unbelievable. But got it approved.

Thanks. Did you have it done at Safelite?
Hell no. They have messed up one of our cars. I posted needing a recommendation in the clubhouse section of ihatemud. Received a great recommendation. They have replaced three windshields. One on the lx, mdx and forester. All oem. All approved by State Farm.
