New windshield price?

Thanks. I assume you went the latter route, since you have an LC. How is it holding? Did you get OEM glass?

Yes, OEM, I wouldn't have anything else. No issues, just like I'd expect. He replaced a 4Runner windshield for me as well and the windshield in our GX460 twice, no issues with either of those, OEM glass as well.

Thanks. I will give him a call as soon as I sort it with my insurance.

Let him give you an "insurance" quote, he knows the pricing threshold to get your insurance to approve OEM over third party glass.

I just did mine with a local installer, I watched the whole process and he did an amazing job... Will report back after this weekend skit trip... for $525 I had to give that a try vs $2500 the dealer wanted...

What glass?

Almost certainly not Genuine Toyota at that price.

For anyone else researching, there are far better options that would be a couple hundred more and include a higher quality panel.

Beats me, just not Toyota, but it had all the required features...

Did it include the heating element/de-icer for the windshield wiper? ...black grill-like strip at the bottom of the windscreen.

I’ve had my windshield replaced several times this fall, each time with OEM Lexus glass. Paperwork shows that insurance paid about $1150CAD each time. My deductible is $200 CAD per incident.

I recently paid $550-ish installed for an aftermarket glass with a good local installer. No leaks, no new wind noise, and no re-calibration after, everything appears to be 100%. I understand the desire to have quality glass but some dudes paying $1700+ USD for a windshield seems insane. Find a reputable local installer and get some quotes, dealership glass seems pretty crazy in comparison.

At the dealer they charge full price for the panel and trim, the installer still charges for the labor, and the dealer usually gets their cut as well.

I sourced a genuine Toyota panel for about $500 about a year ago from a discount parts site, another $150 for the trim that is hard to save, and paid a bad ass installer only $125.

My aftermarket panel before that had issues with the rain sensor bracket not being true, and the deicer being basically useless. The VIN window wasn’t in the correct position. Plus it didn’t seem as tough.. got a huge crack from a rock strike that didn’t seem all that bad. Though I do admit that is impossible to accurately judge.

I’m not defending $1500+ for a genuine Toyota panel, I’m saying I’ve observed tangible differences in quality and it isn’t that expensive or inconvenient to get the real thing.

I agree, the factory glass is better in most every way. I am glad that I get it the same as I would third party glass for only my $100 deductible.

I wouldn't want my windshield flying off during an accident (The evidence is there if you are willing to search).
Seems like a silly place to cheap out on when you own a LC.

I'd have to imagine that windshields being ejected in an accident certainly has more to do with the installation than the physical glass itself

@MRego
One more data point for you here in Houston is Carriage Glass and Detail. They quoted me $1550 a couple of months ago for OEM.

I am yet to take them up on it, but I heard about them on this forum. Some people were speaking very highly of them.
Not to switch you away from @Tex68w ‘s suggestion. Just to give you another name in case his suggestion isn’t able to do it for some reason.

As an aside, I keep making road trips so it’s too easy to say, “okay, I’ll live with the crack until I get back from my NEXT trip.”
So now the crack goes all the way across my windshield. Luckily it’s lower than my field of view.

@kbohtx, @MRego, @Tex68w,

I finally decided to pull the trigger on getting my LC’s windshield replaced.

I reached out to Vinay like you suggested Tex68 and am waiting to get his quote.

In the mean time I thought I would ask you Kbohtx and MrEgo if you had him to the work for you?
Are you satisfied?

It's still on my list of things to do. I just know that as soon as I get mine replaced it'll get cracked again. If you don't mind, I'd be interested to hear the quote you receive.

Thanks!

Kevin

Yikes! The price is $1900.
Though it will be less if the clips aren’t broken.

I did initially ask for all OEM parts. But now I went back to ask what it would be with non-OEM parts.

Edit:
$1200 for glass made in China.

I was trying to get this done before I drive to AK, but with these prices I guess I’ll wait until after. Though the current crack extends the full width of the window, it’s below my sight line.
