Well...for whatever reason the Non-Op wasn't processed correctly according to the DMV and AAA said there is nothing they can do about it despite the fact that I did it thru AAA.

$637 later I have it fully registered with current tags.

Can't believe how freaking expensive this truck is. Ugh.

You can contest it, and DMV has the ability to waive the fees (I got them to waive the fees on the 18 years non-registered '74 FJ40), but it took a few trips and you will have to deal with some of the most stupid-stubborn people God placed on this Earth. I was just more stoopid and stubborn.

:D

DMV has an official form to fill out. REG 5090 - affidavit of non use. You don't have to pay reg for whole years that it was not used on any public road....

Wished I woulda known this. $435 for 5 years parked in a yard. The guy didn't non op the reg.

CA VC 9562 states that new owner isn't responsible for those....

So I was playing around and decided to swap out all the vacuum lines with new Toyota vacuum hose that I've had sitting around forever. Found one vacuum leak so far, so that was cool. What was very uncool was breaking off two nipples trying to get the old hose off :bang:

Luckily JB Weld to the rescue. Mixed up a tiny amount, 10 mins later and good as new. But I stopped after those because I was lucky those two were clean breaks. I may not be so lucky the next time.

Holding off when there is more light...and more availability of emissions ports that break :P

Oh hey!!!

I forgot the post mortem pics!!!!!

Still trying to find out what happened. There must be some kind of evidence somewhere that will lead me to its failure. Not knowing for sure what finally killed this beast may haunt me forever. Consider this NCSI West Hills. Can you spot the potential failure point?

Holy FAWK !!

The rod bolt let go, then the crank came back around and hit the rod, driving the piston into the head! I'm surprised the rod isn't more bent.... How fast was :princess: going when it happened?

What does the top of the piston look like ?

Fwiw, whenever I replace any vacuum hoses that are attached to a plastic or metal nipple, I always grab the hose with a pair if long needle nose pliers. Twist the hose first to crack it loose from the nipple and then slide it off. Works everytime and you won't break any more plastic nipples. plastic gets brittle after 20 years + of daily heat cycles ......
