Well, I was tinkering around out in the garage, when the wife yelled, dinner.

I just worked my way around the corners and managed to break loose ALL the fasteners for the leaf springs / shocks. Pretty surprised I didn't have any problems. The top nut on the front shocks were the most difficult, but once I jammed a pry bar in there to stop the shock from spinning, they came right off.

It's been years since I bought any shocks. The OME's come with this boot installed now, huh?

Maybe I'll head back out in a while, if I don't have too many rum & cokes...

I now realize this was a trick question... It took me the rest of the night to remove the shipping material from those leaf springs. :)

Doh! They don't mess around with the packing. Hopefully it wasn't too bad.

They look like the original shocks, they would be pretty sad by now. But a few Bacardi Golds can cheer anyone up.

The Bacardi always does

So, new springs and shocks are on. But the U bolts on the rear are even longer than my deep impact socket. Dinner break. I guess I can cut off the excess then get them torqued up.

I had one U bolt I ended up cutting off. Then one spring pin kicked my butt for a while.

Richj11, if it was easy, every Tom Dick and Harriet would be doing it.
Good to see and well done.

Doh!

Well, unfortunately no progress when I have to work weekdays. But retirement is looming right around the corner!

After spending way too much gut-wrenching time reading threads and opinions and trying to determine what path to take with wheels, I finally just pulled the trigger and bought the steelies. They arrived today. Now I need to order some tires.

I recently put the BFG AT KO2's on my Tacoma and I've been pretty happy with them, so I'll order some for the 70. I think the 235/85R16's are gonna be perfect.

They will be, Ive tried bigger and wider, these are the Goldilocks option

Okay, here is my stupid question of the day... What does this switch with the "F" to the left of the steering column do?? I think I hear a solenoid click when I pull and push it???

Not factory. Anybody's guess.

Finally started on the front axle today. The only surprise was the fact that you have to break loose the brake line to the caliper to get things apart. Guess I should shop for some new hoses since they're off now. :)

G'Day Fella's,

Yes richj11, replace the flexible brake hose lines, with new one's.
And iirc, there is an inner and an outer axle shaft seals. Best to replace both of these (on each side), while it's Kit Form.

Regards

On petrol models I think it was where the choke knob was. Its blank on my HZJ75, not even a hole drilled.

My FJ73 has the choke installed but the knob doesn't look like that. Just has the choke icon on it.
