Mine drove me crazy, so I upgraded to the two speed over the windshield ones, although I didnt butcher my frame which seems to be all the rage.

You don't have a high beam button between the clutch and brake on the floor?

Oh, FYI, I'm 6'3". No riding with the top on.

I can't find any brights on the light switch so I need to look into that... it is a '65 make, 66 tagged, '67 titled : )
=
Its on the driver floor -like an old GM ;)

I have the mini truck power steering which keeps the stock drag link and pitman arm. Had to adjust the stops on the axle to keep it from rubbing. I only have 35's though. Saginaw removes drag link and puts the box and arm out front behind the bumper.

Where do you get such marvelous toys? Very cool!

:grinpimp:

Hey, what are ya'll running for power steering on the J4's? My stock steering pitman arm on the 45 rubs the 37's at full lock and flex... very much:frown:

Saginaw moves the box and arm outta the way... minitruck PS keeps it in the way, right?
other options?

60/62 box is a good mod and probably the way I'll eventually go.
mounts similar to a scout box. Basically go look at the box on your 60 and mount it that way :D

I've heard that 35s are the limit for the minitruck box. My 33s will push the box at times. I too, will most likely go 60 box at some point. Looking forward to losing the center arm and superfluous arms and rods.

My son Matt had the minitruck box with either 36s or 38s and it didn't have enough oompf to turn well in tight spots.

I am running minitruck steering with my 36 Iroks and it is great on the street but only power assist on the trails. I am three parts short of my Saginaw conversion which will take place this Winter. If you are going to wheel it with 37s go Saginaw IMHO. I am hoping to make the Fall Colors ride. I missed CMCC and the Pig run after killing my Lockrite at GSMTR and driveshaft on the way home. Rebuilt the driveshaft and have a ARB in the rear now.

John, since we know how well you like to do things, any chance you could document the saginaw procedure build?

Thanks for the feedback on the steering... still pondering the goal of the 45 build... hardcore or mild. The steering will define this because if I do the simple minitruck steering, I will only run 35's max.. saginaw and I can at least run my 37's if not 40's : )

Thank for the congrats... I have a 62 box sitting here that I can get a good deal on...

Anyone have any feedback on how the minitruck box will turn 37's???

Jeff, you haven't been on the trail with my 40 yet (but NOW you will!!!! Mr. stocker man with no power steering!!!! *muah-ha-ha....*) but Dan and Old Man Bob have.

i need a smaller pulley for my saginaw pump, (so it spins faster and makes more boost) but I still don't think that will be enough. I have to rock it a lot to get the tires turned in tight spots. For as big as you want to go, Mini won't be enough.

remember BK (you know... the guys we never see anymore?:D) RIPPED 3 center arms off his pig before ditching the minitruck steering

You could do a ram, but I talked with Fred Lamb at CMCC who has mini w/ a ram, and for something that's going to see any real street use, he doesn't think it's too safe. The ram makes your box react slow and then over-steers. You aren't building a trailered rig so I don't think it's a great option for you.

Gary has a 60/62 box on his pig (forget which) and Cam still has his 62 box on his *thing* but he did port it for hydro..... that's cam though  he's doing some crazy stuff and needed it.

I'm honestly not sure how the 60/62 box (pretty much the same) compares to the saginaw powerwise. I know it's a better behaved street box. Talk to Mark W as he's done a lot of them and could give you a good answer.

...all that said, if you HAVE the mini stuff it's SUPER easy to throw it on NOW and wheel! Plan on your changeover later in the build!
also, you can ALWAYS sell off your mini steering after the change over :D

Good points.... if I plan to flog the 45 (sounds downright wrong when I say/type it) then it will be similar to the 55 I had, saginaw PS, Longs, lockers f/r, 4wdiscs, SOA, track bar/truss, with some suspension variations....full cages (bed/cab)..

mild wheeler will be ministeering, 33/35's, just the front discs, basically stock, even keep the F engine and look for a good deal on a 2F or 3FE (the latter would be good behind the manual 4-speed and bolt in FI with the low torque of I-6)... small cage over the bed with the canbak, and a small roll cage interior of the cab.

If I keep it a mild wheeler, then I need something to flog :grinpimp: minitruck or chopped J6 series.... whatever I can find a good deal on which does not seem to be too hard;)

Philosophically, adding another rig is more complex since I have a DD/expedition J6 series, the mild wheeler J45, and then some rock beast:eek: and the '04 4runner my wife drives... as we all know, it is expensive, more maintenance and time, and more maintenance and time and did I mention it is expensive:) so an all in one rig, kinda like the 55 was, how John, Bob's, Gary's, and others wheel is attractive... but the first time I slam the bedside of the 45:frown: back to floggin the 45 (which I am dealing with slowly;)) just not sure of the direction at this point.

Feel free to express some opinions as I am sure you have them:beer:

I'll speak heresy . . . . I think it would be a shame to beat that 45 like you beat your 55. Get a buggy! :D Build the 45 into a expedition/whatever rig that's driveable and camp out of it!

flame on . . . yo

For as hard as it is to find decent 45's it would be a shame to kill that truck. Although it would be kinda fun to watch.
You seemed to like driving the blitzkrieg buggy. Build one of those and tow it with the 45. Then you would be :grinpimp:.
