Just so you know, the stock FZJ80 shafts are chromo. Nitro and Poly are stronger, but not enough to spend the $$ IMO. In all the years of me beating the hell out of my 80, I only broke one rear shaft. I bought a used stock replacement for $50 and swapped it out in camp. (Gotta love FF axles!) Food for thought.

Are you sure they are chromoly? Or do you mean they are just as strong?

IIRC, they are chromoly, just a lower grade than aftermarket. I could be wrong (it was 8 years ago when I was messing with this), but that is what I recall. No matter what, the cost of the aftermarket shafts didn't make up for the marginal increase in strength.

Cut off the rest of the random brackets and tabs this morning then got the pearches welded up and the shock mounts ground to fit. Army steve hopped in with me and we went to petes with the 80 housing to get some measurements and tack on the pearches which went smooth.

Got er back home and fully welded everything on. Made a template of the ladder bar bracket while i was there so a new one can be whipped up whenever.

No rotation of the pinion for the spring-over? Other than that it looks good!

Oh yeah the pinion is the same angle as the 60 axle, its the leaf pearches that give that illusion. The way my leaf packs ended up being mounted to the 40 frame the pearches are rotated 5 degrees towards the front of the axle.

Yeah eh? I may put a short ring around it.. like a ramp type thing. Quit giving me things to do!

Still debating on the type of truss deal i wanna do. Have a piece of 3x1.5" rectangle tube i can cut up but then id have to move the breather. Also have 2 tubes with the exact same bends in em that i can use.... or a plate style one maybe? Gonna google and see what others have done and how it looked.

Well its kinda got a pretty good truss on it already, I would not truss it any more. If it wont bend under an 80, it certainly wont under a 40. I have heard of a select few rear bent housings, but that is on built 80 series rigs, but Ive never seen pics of this. Only heard of it supposedly.

Meh. Whats spent is spent....

Too late on the truss, just finished burning a tube thing in.... lol. Itll serve as another mount point for the ladder bar brackets that still have to be made if nothing else. Maybe look cool too.

Everyone has me spooked since i decided on 39.5s so im gonna over do it a little.

I'd be WAY more worried about the one piece T-case. If I were in your place I'd be doing an h41/splitcase.

You aren't making big power so I wouldn't be worrying too much. Just think 'feather foot' instead of 'lead foot'.

All kinds of 2f power goin on here!!

T case already has orange45s cone and t case braces so hopefully itll hold up for a bit. Was wanting an orion but with the goddamed exchange rate and duty that idea has been back burnered for a while at least.

Got the "truss" thing burned in and managed to make the ladder bar brackets. Still needs a little somethin but im glad all the measurin and maths are over with.

Ha!

Made up the little gusset deals between the flanges and leaf pearches, welded in a gusset at the ladder bar mount and threw on a pipe cap diff guard i cut out.

Just have to decide on how im running brake lines and it should be ready to paint.
