Haha…very sedan like ride… you should pick up a few gallons of paint…

I was about 3 days in when I realized I hadn’t driven my 4Runner all week. So I thought I’d see if I could make it through the rest of the week without it.
I drove the 40 any time I had to go somewhere besides work (I have a company truck). I’ve managed to drive it at least once every day since Sunday. Sometimes it was down the road to church, sometimes it was into town (~30 minutes each way), sometimes it was ~an hour to go for a bike ride.
It’s been a fun week, really getting comfortable driving a 56 year old tractor everywhere.
Tomorrow (Saturday), I’ll take the 4Runner to the Toyota show because it’s a 2+ hour drive on 70mph freeways but I’ll still try to squeak some Cruiser time in as well.

Your photo with the bike gave me nostalgia for years past when I used to ride often. Sold the bike a little over a year ago due to lack of use. Slow Friday in the office today so I hopped on marketplace and typed in "Surly". There it was, the bike I sold last year for sale by the guy I sold it to. Buying it back tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your photos!!!

Glad to see the 40 getting a bunch of use!

Great story!! The last two years I really slacked off. Last year I had this black one built as motivation. Got a couple rides in and put it away. This year I’m finally making the effort to get back out at least once a week. Now I need to work up the courage to drag the full suspension out for some more exciting trails. 😉

Very cool, you are close to Mt. Tam, that must be a local ride for you. I have been looking for a ~'93-'96 Ibis Mojo forever - the one with the cool brake cable stop in the back from the Sebastopol days... seems a lot of them still around are still in the area. I have a '91 Bridgestone MB2 for now, but talk about a dream rig...

I have mt tam in ink on my arm (my son, his wife, and I got matching ones a couple years ago), I rode up there Wednesday. I haven’t made it all the way up to east peak in a year or two but hopefully I’ll do it this summer again.
I can ask a couple friends if they know of any of that particular bike available.

Just to answer your bike rack question on another platform. I have a QuikRstuff similar to 1up for our bikes but with several upgrades that 1up didn't do. It clears the spare tire. I've had several racks over the years trying to find the "one" (3 Thule T2's, 2 Northshore upright's, 1 Kuat). The QuikR is an upgraded 1up.

Happy cycling!!!

Took the half doors off the other day. I think I’ve had them on from when I started driving it a couple years ago but can’t be certain. I know it’s been most of the time. I like the function but not so much the aesthetic.
Thankfully they fit flat on the rear floor if I want to throw them back on.
The last two weeks it’s been my daily, which isn’t much but considering I live ~20-30 minutes from town it adds up.
I need to play with the timing a little, but it’s been doing great.

It’s always had a slight miss/backfire on compression so I thought I’d give the distributor a little turn.
Made it worse.
Then it started dying at stop signs again but I thought it might be from the gallon of old gas I put in the other day.
So I tried to mess with it today, noticed a leaking hose (have had a mystery coolant loss all summer), so I replaced the hose and played with the distributor again.
Time got cut short and I ran out to pick my kid up from soccer. It was missing and popping something fierce so I pulled over and played with the distributor some more. Got it to run a little better but pulled into town and it still wouldn’t idle. Adjusted the carb screws to no avail.
Finally made it home with the kid and got a chance to actually put a timing light on it for the first time ever.
I got it to idle enough to time it (bb on the mark?), then adjusted the idle screw by ear (no tach) and the mixture screw out 1.5 turns.
Seems to be ok after revs but haven’t got a chance to drive it again yet.

Still not idling right so I got it in my head to check the fuel filter.
It’s pretty bad.
There was a bunch of gunk in the bowl and the element.
I’ll order a new one and clean this one up for a spare.

Keep the pressure spring at the bottom. It doesn't come with the element and it may not come with the new metal bowl filter.

How is the tank and the fuel lines? That had to come from somewhere

The bowl did drop and the filter fell out, but I’m not seeing a spring, or any o rings. The big one may still be stuck to the top of the housing.
Gas was pouring out so I slapped the empty bowl back on as quick as I could.

I ended up ordering a new assembly off eBay, hopefully it comes with all the parts it shows so I can rob the element and spring out of it.

Good call. I should have done the same thing - I only bought the element, and just ended up going to Ace and buying a spring that seemed close, then chopping a couple coils off the bottom to make it fit.

The whole assembly is just over 10 bucks from Mr T, 23300-30012. Just sayin because you'll be changing that filter again at some point and might as well grab one. The element when last checked was like 7 bucks. Crazy how for 3 more, you get the whole thing with new fittings.
