Its why I rock crawl a Lexus. Its so comfy.
One of my friends made a similar remark when he saw both of my kids out-cold in the back of my GX when we were on a wheeling trip.

Still waiting on my new mirror ECU to arrive. In the meantime, I had 2 new key fobs delivered that I'll get programmed today. Hopefully, my version of TechStream will handle this.

Any thoughts from the group about the mirror/window issue? I've read a bit about water intrusion causing some issues in this corner of the truck, but haven't seen issues manifest quite like this in my reading.

Great success in key programming! Now we have 3 fobs for her.

While I was in TS, I fiddled with the mirror a little. Nothing to report other than that the PS mirror doesn't seem to respond to TS inputs at all.

Now that you have 3 fobs, I suggest getting a copy of the physical key that's hidden in the fob. Hide that key somewhere on the exterior (up under the frame somewhere?). THEN take that third fob, remove the battery and keep that fob and battery in a little zip-lock or any kind of small pouch inside your car, maybe in the center console or under the floor mat.

Note: you can't just take your key fob and do old school with a magnet up under the frame somewhere.

I've lost my key fob before in stories told in previous posts and there is no way in God's green earth you're getting home if you lose your fob!
I had to have our daughter drive in the middle of the night to bring us our spare to get home.

I highly suggest doing some variation to ensure you have a backup plan if you should ever get robbed (hopefully not!) or lose your fob.

Quite familiar with the hide-a-key 😉

Tried out a new mirror ECU just now, still no dice.

So this is leading me to thinking it's a real PITA issue. I'm sure it's a wire or two crimped or broken somewhere between the driver's control and the PS window/mirror. Probably going to need to be a dealer fix- the diagnostic for this is well outside of my expertise.

Dammit.

Have you tried a multi-meter/volt meter?

I haven't yet. short of step by step instructions, my brain kind of shuts down at electrical diagnostic.
Yeah, I here ya, brother. I'm a biomedical engineer, but more mechanical. It takes me a little longer for with sparky projects, and hoping I don't see (or smell) the magic smoke!

The mirror itself is likely dead, given the changed color of the mirrors. They can and do die. 460s have color matched so it becomes pricey to do whole housing but you can also get the guts. The color shell is tricky to get off on sun baked mirrors.

If you need any advice I am in ATL as well. Feel Free. To the other comments on a GX and wheeling....my wife and I have two of the more built GXes out there and they keep up just fine! When you tow your 20 foot RV into the event then hit the hard trails it throws everyone for a loop....plus the pink GX on 37s my wife drives :P

When you tow your 20 foot RV
Are those 35’s? What did you re-gear to? Looks like you’re about 4500# with that 20ft?

Im pulling a 6k# off-road trailer with my mildly built 460. I didn’t realize how slow she’d be on the hills. Trying decide if I should drop 2k to regear a truck with 220k, or just start over on an LX or 550 : / I probably should just get the big girl.

I can confirm a re-geared GX is a beast at towing, even when lifted :). 5,800 pounds here. Pulled 65 mph on hilly highways with the cruise on, and no problem making it up the 30% grade hill to my house.

With what size tires?
Have to admit, being regeared with 35" tires does keep the tranny from hunting for gears going up on highway grades.

33s and 4.56 gears. With 35s I'd want 4.88 gears. I also have headers and a tune, which helps quite a bit.

I buttoned the door panels back up until the new items arrive.

We noticed both side view mirrors are pretty dark, kind of bronzey. Are they supposed to be like this or has the auto-dimming glass failed? Both sides are identical, with a perfect clear perimeter around the whole mirror.

Decided to try a test spot on the hood before beginning paint correction. It's in fine shape, just has some tired clear on the hood. I did a single pass with a blue heavy polish pad and some 3D-One. I think she'll clean up very nicely. Will ceramic coat the car when the paint correction is all complete. It may be a few weeks before I can commit the time.

Congrats on the GX. My brother has an 09 470 that’s built and a 21 with methods and K02s. They drive nice. Like a more luxury 4Runner.

Be careful buffing that thing too much. The more you buff the faster you’ll see clearcoat failure down the line. I just do a full vehicle PPF now and skip heavy paint corrections.

Thanks, Dan. We've actually met once, back when you were still in the 120 at a Sweetwater weekend event. I think you'd *just* purchased a trail trailer.

I'm not convinced the mirror is dead, the stuff just doesn't add up to me. But, will do some more testing this week with multi-meter. I'm happy to swap the guts over, can't imagine that's a terrible job. But, I suspect the window and mirror issues are related.

The GX rides OK. I agree, a nice 4Runner. Honestly, it feels like riding in an Uber, not really special or particularly great. The LX is definitely the better vehicle. This paint isn't worth putting a PPF over. Too many etched bug guts and sun has already given a bit of CC failure on a few surfaces. We may have the door handles resprayed as they got it the worst, which I imagine is why the PO put those chintzy covers over them.

For sure. I haven't dug in to the options for this platform yet. Intent is to keep it as stocky and comfy as possible. In the 100s, the OEM shocks are the best for that, but I'm sure there are other after market options for the 150 that are as good or better.

Or she could decide she wants to lift it :meh: . She's already asked about a steel bumper but I told her she needs lift and tires first. Can't be running around in a stock truck with a bullbar on it. We'll look dumb.
