New GX460 owner. Less build thread, more maintenance log. And stupid questions asked out loud.

For sure. I haven't dug in to the options for this platform yet. Intent is to keep it as stocky and comfy as possible. In the 100s, the OEM shocks are the best for that, but I'm sure there are other after market options for the 150 that are as good or better.

Or she could decide she wants to lift it :meh: . She's already asked about a steel bumper but I told her she needs lift and tires first. Can't be running around in a stock truck with a bullbar on it. We'll look dumb.
Stock dampers are super soft. Definitely room to improve for better vehicle dynamics.

Thanks, Dan. We've actually met once, back when you were still in the 120 at a Sweetwater weekend event. I think you'd *just* purchased a trail trailer.

I'm not convinced the mirror is dead, the stuff just doesn't add up to me. But, will do some more testing this week with multi-meter. I'm happy to swap the guts over, can't imagine that's a terrible job. But, I suspect the window and mirror issues are related.

The GX rides OK. I agree, a nice 4Runner. Honestly, it feels like riding in an Uber, not really special or particularly great. The LX is definitely the better vehicle. This paint isn't worth putting a PPF over. Too many etched bug guts and sun has already given a bit of CC failure on a few surfaces. We may have the door handles resprayed as they got it the worst, which I imagine is why the PO put those chintzy covers over them.
Agreed. I think because the wheel base on the GX is around 5” shorter than a 80/100/200 it has more of that “jumpy” feel when you drive it. It’s not terrible but hopping from a 100 to a GX you do notice it.

Little update: I bought some furniture from a guy on marketplace recently who just happened to be a Lexus master tech. So I bribed him with bottle of bourbon to help me figure out the window/mirror situation. We pulled the front passenger kick panel out and found a block of electrical connectors with a bit of corrosion on them, certainly enough to block power running through. I cleaned both sides of the connectors with electrical cleaner, no dice yet. I'll try again and add a little dielectric grease, and he's going to grab some new connectors from the shop to replace the existing.

The GX has been on moving duty this week. My 100 is kind of a pain to use for large items because of the drawers in back and that it's just so much taller. She's earning her keep now.

Little updates.

The GX, whom will now be known as Clare (get it? Claret?) completed her first road trip with us for Thanksgiving. Atlanta to Virginia Beach, was a great ride. Fuel mileage was surprisingly good, even with my heavy foot.

I've been noticing a very high pitch whine/squeal that's very much linked to throttle input. It seems to be coming from the driver's side of the dash or firewall. I have tried with the stereo on and off, it's there either way. Sounds in the frequency range of a blow-off valve, if not higher; in fact my Ms can't hear it at all. Definitely not a drivetrain/diff/case/bearing thing. It's not entirely consistent, and difficult to recreate on demand, but not impossible. Very much contingent on throttle position; I can prolong the sound by very slowly adding throttle, but once I plateau or back off, it goes away.

I searched and found some things related to the 3rd row not being fully closed. I checked that and found no change. I suspect it could be some kind of feedback through the stereo possibly, but I wouldn't think it would still occur with the system off.

Anyone experience something like this?

Could be a ground loop picking up the ignition.

Interesting, I've been hearing something similar lately, particularly when the engine is cold. Don't seem to hear it much when warmed up.

This sounds like it could be something. Please elaborate like I'm 5.
Thats not really possible with ground loops. They are probably the most difficult issue to troubleshoot electrically.

Your ground has too much resistance so its not shutting the unwanted signal to ground. But thats not really helpful

This may be outside of my diagnostic ability then. I can replace parts, no good if a meter has to come out.

Inspection any terminations for corrosion. Especially around battery
