i think im going to order a wheel vintigue in a 15x7 and see if it will fit my 40. i would go a 16" but im running new tires and for the 63 bucks its a great price. anybody try these in a 15" yet. thanks scott

How did this work out?

rigger, the 15x7 fit fine, i havent got the tire mounted to put it on because the clear coat i used was the wrong stuff and ruined the paint job. so lowes is paying to have it sand blasted so i can mount my tire.

@tugdogsfj40 please post some pictures of your truck wearing the Vintiques!

The wheel shipment boxing was well done, wheels are in a light gray primer. The fit was as to be expected, perfect (a little worried). The 4" BS really left me with plenty of space with the 62 calipers so I think the 3.5" if I could of got them in that would of been fin also. "0" offset, so they sit wheel on the hub. The steering knuckle arm is now within the wheel area but with 1/2 - 3/4 between the rim edge and arm end, plenty of room. It has no cut vents around the inside of the rim mid area you find on the stock Toyota wheels giving this rim a nice smooth look all around the inside. The welds as seen in the photo is a bit rough (not flowing) but not giving any concerns to any brake/axle items. If wanted one can grind the weld a bit smoother being cautious not to take to much off.
The lug ring on the inside rises the rim out from the flushness of the hub about 3/16 give or take. This is seen in many rims types.
All in all this wheel from Summit Racing seems to be a very good candidate for the replacement of the clip type Land Cruiser wheels. I am not to sure but it may even be a possibility to attaché some after market clips for hubs, VW may work. I know summit sells a moon rim for this wheel. Myself I like them without. Tomorrow off to the powder coat folks then to the tire shop then I will post the end results with plenty of pictures.

Hi,

I'm ready to pull the trigger on these "steelies" but need your insight. I've got an FJ62 and I'd like to know what is the correct rim to order in the 16x7. Do you have the experience with the clearence?

Thank you.

Dave

I am not to sure about the wheels I have if they can except some type of clips for a FJ40/55. As I said I had sold my hubs caps and have no way of being able to reference if LC hub caps will work on this wheel or not. I know they sell what looks like a baby moon hub cap for the wheel from the on line Summit store and Vintiques web site. If you have a LC hub cap and measure the inside lip I can measure the hub ring on this wheel and get a general idea if a hub can work. If you look at Scrapdaddys center wheel ring and then the one I have they are a bit different.
If only Toyota would of made a 16x7 wheel with clips.
If you go to Vintiques web site and looked at the 65-62 or 26 series of wheels they are very close to a wheel that will possibly except the clips that have the Chevy type slant clip pads. Unfortunately they are not made in 16x7
but if you contact them to see if they would make a 16x7 in that series, but I am sure that were the dollars start to add up. There are many other wheel shops on line that can most likely help in that area also.

Did you ever buy and install these rims? Figure out the clips etc?

Wheel vintique series 12 15 x 7 with hubcap , what do you guys think

I didn't forget.... my troopy got stuck in customs for months. But here it is now with the wheel vintique 16x7's 4" backspace. fits good! Tires are 255/85 Left them the bare primer they come in for now. Maybe go a darker grey soon. Like the factory split wheel color that comes on 70 series.
So stoked to have a different wheel than most and it fits without spacers !

What a beauty of a truck. The wheels look great.

I have been following this thread and want to purchase a set of the 12-670604 for my FJ40. I am going with the 235/85/16 tires.
The truck is all original with stock suspension, will they clear the tie rod ends. Thanks

Earlier in the thread you'll see my example with 255/85 tires. This suspension does not affect the wheel and tire rod relationship. No problems whatsoever so 235 will be just fine.

Pete, thanks for the info. I have the original 16" splits and want to keep the same look. Glad to know
that the 4" backspace will work.

Ken,

I'm thinking the same tire size for my 77 BJ40 with no lift and stock suspension. The issue I found is not really the tires that are about the 31.5", but the backspacing on the rims. I was told everywhere that I need a negative offset rim (i.e. backspace is less than 1/2 of rim width). Very hard to find those, especially here in Africa.

What year is your FJ40?

Tom, I actually have a 1981 BJ42 completely stock with the split rims. From what Pete and others have said on this thread, the Wheel Vintiques 670604 rims with the 4" backspace will fit an FJ/BJ40 without any problem.

Go back and look at page 2 of this thread and you'll see the pictures that convinced me to buy the wheels and that they would fit.

Pete
