Hello,

Finally rebuilt my starter and now realizing my battery, Sears Diehard Platinum 31M won't hold a charge. Sad to see that Sears no longer sells this battery.

Plans in future to add a winch but none now. What's the best deal in a battery? 2017? Old posts seem no longer relavant as selections change with the times. One note; my local stores CCA are less than same battery in past as they say the Texas heat kills batteries with thicker plates which run hotter. Anyway... I just need a good new battery.

This is for a Dallas area vehicle. Thank you.

I am switching everything over to the AGM type of battery. Its expensive but my hope is that in the long run it'll be a wash. One really nice thing about the AGM is that they can be shipped.

I had the optimas but they got worse and worse so after the third failure I now have an interstate and its been perfect almost a year and the cruiser sits quite a bit, plus the battery was out of the truck in the garage for over a month and started right up when I reinstalled it[after moving the washer fluid bottle and installing second battery tray]

I reread my post above and realized I didn't mention where I got most of my batteries. Orielly auto parts.

Hmmm... 1/3 more than I paid for this one but I do like the warranty. I'll look into that one.

Who makes that battery?

Northstar makes that battery. Northstar is a Swedish company but the battery is manufactured in the U.S. I think the same battery is sold under the Northstar name and distributed by Exide.

Optima AGM batteries (spiral wound) should not be compared with AGM plate style batteries. I went through 4 Optima's in my Mustang in the 90's and was told by Mopac in Canada that failures were very common. (Two Red and Two Yellow top.)

I'm a big Optima fan. I have a yellow top in the cruiser. It always holds 13+ volts, and always starts even in subzero weather. I use red tops at work in back up generators on remote mountain tops. They just work, and you can find them anywhere. I also trickle charge them with a battery tender periodically. I would guess in the last ten years I have personally purchased and installed north of 40 Optima's. The only "problem" I have ever had was due to my own idiocy. I ran two red tops in series off of the side posts, then attached a readywelder and proceeded to burn through 4 pounds of wire. The terminals overheated and literally melted the lead out. This battery still holds a charge. It would not have happened had I used the large terminals on top.

I replaced my 31M with the Batteries Plus higher end AGM 27F size:
SLI27FAGMDP - X2Power Premium AGM Car and Truck Battery at Batteries Plus Bulbs

seems to work fine for starting and mild winching that I do, and runs the fridge for a long weekend (3 days) without needing shore power or engine starting to recharge it.
I also replaced my platinum 31M with the Batteries Plus AGM. I've had it for almost 2 years and no worries. Batteries Plus warranty is what sold me.

Hello,

Thanks to everybody that's replied to my question. I appreciate this recommendation. After checking everything out, looks like my old Die Hard PLatinium was 6 1/2 yrs old. Haven't been driving it as much in last few years but it's toast. After doing the research, this X2 battery seems like a good replacement. The warranty is what does it for me, 5 yr full replacement, and it sure seems like a very well built battery. Working now to order this one on line, to save 10% then will pick up in the store. Wish it saved me sales tax too... LOL.

Thanks for your help.

Find yourself a Interstate outlet, and ask if they have any "blems" I have done this when i have had to replace a pair of group31's on my roll off truck. Brand new battery half the cost:flipoff2:

You run the best tires you can find, or do you carry a spare?

Using same logic; I have Dual Batteries.

They are Costco batteries, and I would bet my wallet that both will not fail at same time.

Hey Jeffro109,

Question about this X2Power battery. My factory cables barely reached on the Diehard P 31M battery. On this one, the terminals are on the wrong side as I need positive +, on left and ground negative -, on right when facing the front of truck. Can I just rotate this battery so the front view shown in the pictures is pointed to rear of vehicle? That would seem to work and put the terminals where I need them. Reason I ask before I order it is that I haven't found another view of the battery on line, not even the manufacturers web site.

If i have to get new cables, I would like to know in advance. Any pics of it installed in your cruiser?

Thank You,

Bryan Enoch

Yes, the 27F is the stock battery size/group designation. The "F" in 27F stands for Ford which is a reverse termial battery from the Group 27.
Or a 34R (R is for reversed posts).
