how is that supposed to help extend the reach of a "too small" torque wrench?

if the idea is to extend the reach then no... if the idea is to gain more leverage yes.

Project completed! :)

First off, thanks to EVERYONE for all the advice and help on this thread and the
many others!
The Harbor Freight Phillips #3 bit was PERFECT for extracting the oil pump cover screws... they all came out just fine!
The 2" pvc used for re-installing the crank seal wasn't the right fit. However, I just happen to have a belled section of 2" pvc and that was the correct fit.
It took around 7 hours to get everything done. That included a trip to Sonic and Autozone.
I didn't get to the PHH this time, but will do it soon.
That crank bolt is HUGE! It worked perfect to break it loose with the method recommended (30mm socket on breaker bar, placed under passenger side of frame, and bump the starter-with ignition coil unplugged). To hold the crank so that I could re-torque it, I hooked a chain to the driver's side of the frame and ran it to the crank pulley, put a bolt through a link into the top of the crank pulley, and continued the chain to the passenger top side of the frame, wrapped it around and went back to the bottom of the crank pulley and put in a bolt. This worked perfect! (forgot to take a pic though) I ended up using a 250 ft/lb torque wrench and went a little past the max... I think this will be good enough.

Recap:
Replaced distributor o-ring (which had also been leaking)
Installed new fan belts and idler assembly
Replaced oil pump cover screws with new ones
Replaced oil pump seal (used a thin layer of RTV)
Replaced front crank seal (used belled 2" pvc as spacer to re-install seal)
Replaced a heater hose that looks degraded
Replaced both lower radiator hoses
Replaced aluminum coolant bypass tube (and the 3 o-rings) that goes from the head to the water pump housing (mine leaking had a hairline crack).

I've noticed a new engine noise that sounds like a bearing or something (in the alternator?)...
The fan belt idler is brand new...
I made sure the belts are not too tight...
The fan belts I installed are Duralast, not Toyota (unfortunately). Could these be causing the weird noise??

if the "V" side is sectioned then they are probably the issue.

They are sectioned... :bang: It's such an odd noise, but it kinda makes sense.
I'll get some factory fan belts soon and save the duralasts for spares.
Thanks.
